krackpipe: FTFA; "Believe me, the critical infrastructure of this country is under threat," Brennan said, adding that foreign states and hackers "are developing advanced technologies, and we have to improve our defenses on this issue."

The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics poses more of a risk to our national infrastructure than computer attacks do.

meyerkev: Gleeman: Is Obama trying to break H. W.'s Executive Order record?

But obviously we need this because of all the hacker attacks on infrastructure in the last decade...oh, wait.

To be fair, while we're not getting the full story, from the bits we're getting it does sound like China is pretty much constantly hitting everything and everyone looking for anything they can steal.

/I can't even count the number of times I've seen "And the first thing I do is block all Russian and Chinese IP addresses" on Fark.

Should have said successful attacks. Also second the question why critical systems would be connected to the internet in the first place? In the military we had one network connected to the net for general office stuff, personal e-mail accounts, etc.; and a separate SIPRNet intranet for classified/mission critical stuff.

Hint: it totally is.

Scarier Hint the "advanced hacking technology" spoken of in the article is actually alarmingly uncomplicated.

We're just getting around to dealing with it now because that's how cool and "hip" Cybersecurity is. Word to your mother.

If we had some actual Computer Security, we might be better protected. Instead we trust our information infrastructures to Quintegenarian+ men who still can't find their AOL disks*

*but it totally had 1000 free hours on it! And you can't get on the intertubes if you don't have AOL, silly!
