When is this crap over?

2012-08-09 09:49:15 AM
It's about damn time Canada...

/France has had too many close calls.

2012-08-09 09:50:44 AM
Erm. Why wasn't the Canadian goal called back for being offside? #6 was like 3 yards offside?

/Hates this new subjective offside rule, worse than the subjective handball rule

Awesome! Canada wins the bronze. Good job ladies!

She wasn't offside.

Well, Canada gets yet another bronze, solidifying our position as a third-place nation. Gold and silver are over-rated.

Uh... why not? Was there a defender behind her out of camera range? Sure looked like #6 was well ahead of the ball and behind the defenders, and in a position to unfluence the play. So why wasn't she offside?

2012-08-09 09:56:31 AM
Eagles vs. Steelers pre-season looks a whole lot more interesting than today's lineup

2012-08-09 09:57:29 AM
Pumped for today. Women's volleyball semifinals against South Korea are about to start. I'm also looking forward to seeing Claressa Shields box, in what could be the only US gold medal in the sport. And, of course, USA vs. Japan. Let's do this!

How are the decathletes grouped into Group A and Group B? Group A seems to be attempting higher vault heights than Group B. I noticed this yesterday in the High Jump as well.

She wasn't in a position to influence the play. The French goaltender and defender were way out of position. If she touched the ball then, yes she would have been offside.

Easy now. We're #1 in the only sport that matters - trampoline.

Wait... #6? the blond? Kyle? Or the one that scored the goal? either way.. there wasn't anyone offside. There was someone to the right of the goal scorer that wasn't offside. When the goalscorer kicked the ball, the player on her right, wasn't in a place to influence the play as she couldnt obstruct any of the french players nor the ball was played to her.

2012-08-09 10:02:22 AM
And EPIC fail by the Frenchman, who didn't take his bad pole vault very well.

One other thing about this game. France are good. Very good on the ball. The USWNT will have big problems with this team in 2015.

Some should tell the British guy announcing Decathlon-PV how to pronounce "Freimuth." It's coming out as "Free mouth".

And Eaton is the first decathlete over 5 meters, and hasn't missed a vault so far.

I particularly hate how everyone is forced at gunpoint to watch them beginning to end.

The ref gets to do that. For the first nine events it is a combination of who is availible when (athletes are supposed to get a set minimum time between events) and some competitive balance within the event (you want the guys to be pretty equal to help them do well and to make things easier to run).

The last event (1500m run) is divided more or less by total score after the first 9 events so people can compete against those they are close to in the competition as opposed to the specific event.

I take back every defense I made for NBC yesterday. Tape-delaying the women's volleyball semis for 12 hours after showing every previous match live on MSNBC is shameful.

It's just absurd to show every previous match live then decide you want it in primetime when you're out of other things to show. What a kick in the balls for people who have been there for the live games for the entire tournament.

Well, you know, they no longer can show off Misty and Kerri, so they'll have to settle for the indoor variety.

Canada guaranteed at least a silver in women's 55kg rasslin' as Tonya Verbeek won her semi-final match with an awesome take-down.

Presumably now the beach volleyball has finished, they need time to doctor the footage of the normal volleyball to make it appear as if there is sand. And bare midriffs.

They can replay last night's interview with Bob Costas, then show what happened afterwards when they almost definitely went back to the village and had sex with each other. I've never seen two people more obviously in love with each other.

Seems like I'm the only one questioning this call, so I'll go with these explanations being correct. Glad we won, but I still miss the objective calls in soccer. Situational offsides and handballs don't sit well with me.
