Social gaming is a HUGE part of the next generation of games. Zynga's problem is that they built one game, reskinned it a hundred times, did no actual innovation, and wonder why the fad died out. It didn't. People iterated on zynga's simple ideas, made exponential itterations of more interesting competition.

Between that and a recession reducing frivolous spending that has affected the whole industry... There's a recipie for disaster.

Their response to the downturn was equally lacking in any kind of creativity - buy out other games, add more ads to increase revenue.

I hate that you can't play any of their games without a damn Facebook account.
