While all of you are trying to out-clever each other in the pun department, you're missing the point that
Big Avocado is just going to use this as an excuse to artificially inflate the price of guacamole.

As a big fan of avocados, this is actually somewhat distressing.

Do you know how to tell how old an avocado tree was that was killed by beetles? You cut it down and count the ringos.

This.

And not just in savory meals.

I highly recommend avacado shakes.

Avocados have been overpriced for years. This will not help. Although I'm surprised y'all bought the idea that avocados were grown on trees, like the common shoe.

It's a naughty word and a pun. The only thing that would make it better is an Austin Powers reference.

There has been a noticeable trend over the past few years where people are choosing healthier meals at restaurants. Avocados are an excellent source of potassium and monounsaturated fats, so meals that contain them would satisfy that demand nicely. Besides, with a pinch of salt and the right spices they're really tasty.

/has on occasion used mashed avocado in place of olive oil in pesto genovese

Of course, this gets even MORE hilarious when you realise where the term "avocado" actually cums, erm, comes from:

The word "avocado" comes from the Spanish aguacate which in turn comes from the Nahuatl word ahuácatl (testicle, a reference to the shape of the fruit). Avocados were known by the Aztecs as 'the fertility fruit'.

(Link to Online Etymology above, this is not just something documented in Wikipedia but in actual print dictionaries as well)

Yes, kids, you're reading this right: the term "avocado" comes from an old Aztec word meaning testicles--they apparently thought the source of guacamole looked like someone's scrotum. O_o

WHICH ONLY MAKES IT MOAR AWESOME. :D

/seriously does hope this doesn't kill off avocado production
//jesus friggin' hell but I am getting farking sick of introduced insects and diseases killing off most of North America's trees--about the only thing left that ISN'T suffering some plague threatening to wipe it out are maples (oak trees are having some introduced fungal disease out West, we've already practically lost elms, we're only NOW getting to the point of breeding American chestnuts that can survive chestnut blight, and there's the goddamn emerald ash borer and wooly agelid) and at this rate I'm expecting some goddamn Chinese beetle to be discovered that's going to kill off all the maples as well :(
///shiat like this makes me seriously wonder if New Zealand doesn't have the right idea (to whit: "Fumigate the living fark out of ANYTHING coming into the country, human passengers on planes included, with insecticide--assuming we let it in at all, which we probably won't if it turns out your shipping ports are veritable temples of Nurgle")
