I know she's the first from Saudi Arabia, doubt she's the first Arab female runner though (especially if you consider Turkish athletes to be Arabian).

I somehow don't think that'll be a spoiler on this broadcast. Might get a 30-second Bob Costas mention with a video clip.

WhyteRaven74: fruitloop: I don't know what time this match was played,

match started at around 4PM EST

Which is 9 there, likely around the same time NBC tapes the prime time show. They could show a good bit of tomorrow's game during the prime time show, even with some of those skipping ahead bits.

I think beach volleyball has a long way to go before any part of it is considered "historic".

That of course would be one opinion. I'm sure the volleyball enthusiasts include some who disagree.

I know she's the first from Saudi Arabia, doubt she's the first Arab female runner though (especially if you consider Turkish athletes to be Arabian).

It's been this way the last three or four matches I've seen. How about filling it with great sports and sportsmanship wether it has USA in it or not. Say field hockey.

Good point, but the 2011 WWC final drew a 7.4 on ESPN. I'm still going to watch it live, but I'd love to see NBC give the USWNT some spotlight. Maybe they'll surprise me.

First of all, my apologies for coming across that strongly. I misread the original exchange, and responded in a knee-jerk fashion. I really shouldn't FARK while stressed and half-asleep.

Secondly, I don't think that the original complaint was talking about showing the entire game, but instead giving it more than a 2-minute highlight. Considering that NBC has showed pretty much every single point of almost every Misty-Kerri game, when they have a habit of skipping large portions of other matches, it is annoying that they can't condense some of those matches as well and squeeze in 10-minute highlights from the other competitions going on.

Agreed. Like when that American was halfway through his victory lap, then realized he was DQ'ed, and he wadded the flag up. Cringe.

My father in law is former Navy, and he's rabid about flag protocol. Every once in a while I run across an obscure rule, and I forward it to him. Usually, he already knew.

From what I picked up from a girl I knew in water polo, the sport essentially revolves around either trying to rip the opponents top off, or shoving your hand/their suit up the opponents ass. They would wear 2 or 3 suits in case the first one got torn off.

If this is what you see with cameras everywhere (including underwater) in the Olympics, just image what happens in the minors when no one can see what you do underwater.

I enjoyed it also. It's tough to judge a show on the pilot, they have to get all the characters and the basic set-up all crammed in.

However, this does have the potential to have many back story episodes and room to grow. The montage of several of the characters at night was pretty good.

I will see where it goes and hope NBC actually lets the show develop unlike what they did with that last Matthew Perry show (about the arena which also had potential for all kinds of stuff).

True, but the feed would be in black and white and all pixelated. I joke.

Will I avoid it entirely by instead reading Olympic comment tweets from a lesbian friend in Britain?

I just discovered, upon launching the morning streams, that there is a marathon for swimming (1500km, I think). I am in complete awe of anyone attempting this.

Errr.... 10km, that is. 1500km would be a bit silly.

Apparently it requires borderline sports-masochism, wherein you push your body so far beyond it's "For the love of God, STOP!!" threshold* that you have to almost enjoy the pain to be able to compete. Definitely awe-worthy.

I was reading a story recently about a world-class competitor who died in a competition in the middle-east, because the water was too warm and he basically died of heat exhaustion while swimming. No worry of that in London, of course.

/*even beyond rowing, which is usually described as a pain contest.
