I will say that the Packer team that showed up that day didn't look anything like the Packer team I cheered for all season (other than the KC game). Unfortunately though, they don't award championships based on regular season performance or who has more talent. They award it on who shows up for the game and the Packers didn't show up. Had the team showed up, it would have been a very fun game to watch (like the regular season match up), not necessarily a Packer win though. Instead, we got a clinic from the Giants on how to give an ass pounding.

Funny, I didn't hear anybody on the Packers complaining when they were winning games because they were +24 in turnovers. It's a shame that Green Bay's regression to the mean happened so dramatically in one game, but those things happen.

Also, maybe tackle Ahmad Bradshaw or cover Hakeem Nicks in the last 30 seconds of the first half. Or, just shut your farking fat mouth and deal with your ass kicking.

No, he was pointing out that there were some universally acknowledged horrible calls that went in favor of the Packers in that game, and the game would have been over at halftime if they hadn't been made. That was not a good day for NFL officials, but fortunately the game (and the postseason) were not changed by their mistakes.

Did you hear the Jets were fighting in practice? Fighting! In practice! A football team!

The 49ers beat the Giants in the regular season, in a hard fought, sloberknocker of a game. The Giants beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship in a hard fought, sloberknocker of a game. The Giants were the real deal. They beat the top defense in the NFL, and the two top offenses in the NFL to win the super bowl.

To say that those 3 teams "beat themselves" would be farking retarded. A lot of 49ers fans blame kyle williams fumble on the fact they lost, but guess what happened? The 49ers offense couldn't get it done when they had chances, even in overtime. The 49ers defense held as long as they could but couldn't overcome that fumble. The Giants beat the 49ers, the Packers, and the Patriots to win. No team "beat themselves"

Nope, Alex Smith took care of them. The Packers and Patriots did that shiat legitimately, without offering bounties for play.

That's great, but the Pats and the Packers were not the top two offenses in the league last year. Hell, neither were #1.

If the NFL was in the habit of taking away wins the Saints wouldn't have won a game since 2006. So enjoy your super bowl bout on the head of bounties, and the Patriots can enjoy their superbowls bought on cheating. Last year, the best team in the NFL won the superbowl, and the top 2 offenses in the NFL and the top defense in the NFL were beaten in the process.

I guess running up 70 points on the Colts makes the Saints the top O in the NFL in your mind.

No, just having the top offense in the league does, that's what happens when you're #1 in most categories and #2 in what's left, setting league records along the way. You're not going to find many friends claiming that New Orleans had, at best, the third best offense in the league last year. You can just say you were wrong and not be a whiny dick about it.

You can keep burying your head in the sand and pretending that bounties never happened. You can also bring up "statistics" to say the 49ers weren't the best defense in the NFL last year as well. But to people who watch football all year long, the Packers and Patriots were the two top offenses, and the 49ers were the NFLs best defense. Watching these teams actually play more than one game a year will prove that to you.

The Saints threw for a shiatload of yards, a lot of times on downed opponents and running the score up, but people who actually know and watch football would say the Patriots and Packers were the better offenses, or at least, its arguable. The Saints cheating makes it null and void.

The same as people saying the 49ers weren't the best defense in the NFL, because they gave up a lot of yards in the end of games when the 49ers offense took a break and decided to go three and out while the defense held against long bombs all season long.

Epiphany: But to people who watch football all year long, the Packers and Patriots were the two top offenses

I really, really, really farking doubt that, even among "people who watch football all year long," as if I don't, you're going to have much backup saying the offense that led the league in yards, yards per game, passing yards, passing yards per game, was 2nd in points and points per game, was 6th in rushing yards, 6th in rushing yards per game (in both categories 14 spots higher than New England and 21 spots higher than Green Bay) and set new league records in yards, first downs, pass completions, and completion percentage was somehow third best in 2011. Nothing is arguable about the quality of the said offense against the others in the league, as NULL AND VOID!!!11 as you wish to make them due to your anger about bounties. Leaning on hypothetical opinion of others who reeeeeeally know the game and not actual statistical fact just further details that your position is, quite simply, "I am angry about bounties and therefore ignoring facts to disqualify the 2011 Saints from consideration."

Giants are too dangerous in the post season. Their regular season record is deceiving of how good they and Eli really are.

There is little doubt the Packers were the more talented team, but talent alone doesn't win games. Giants beat their ass hard, despite the terrible calls from the refs. Giants got hot at the right time, just like the Packers in 2010-11.

2012-08-09 09:37:41 AM
As soon as any football play begins, there are 22 "if only"s occurring (if only the center didn't make his block, if only the running back didn't fumble the ball), and that number increases with every action during the play, and absolutely none of those "if only"s matter. What does matter is what actually did happen, and who gets their job done.

The Giants got the job done, and did enough to beat each team in the playoffs, and no amount of pathetic 'we beat ourselves' excuse-making will change that.

a) yeah, the refs helped the Packers out or else it might have been worse
b) the Packers beat themselves - I'm all for turnover battle, but you really shouldn't have 8 fumbles recovered by one team in a game (if we include plays like Cobb's non-fumble that was overturned and the Driver (or was it Jennings?) fumble that actually was a fumble but was also overturned. Rodgers fumbles for the first time all season. Kuhn fumbles for the first time in his career. I mean, just a ridiculous amount of sh*t play. Don't get me wrong, clearly the Giants played well and the Packers' defense sucks...but Green Bay, in anything approaching a normal game, wins.
c) that's why they play the games, though.
d) hey Jermichael, hold on to a f*cking pass someday.

I'd read about this earlier yesterday from ESPN's main page. Got through reading the article and thought "Meh. Wait... why did I just read about this? Are the Packers playing the Giants on TV or something?" Which, of course, no. But then, that's my bad for reading ESPN.

Only a fellow Niners fan could possibly see a cold recitation of statistical fact versus "I don't care what the stats say, they had bounties and I hate bounties and they don't count 'cause I said so" and say the former is a case of butthurt while the latter isn't, LOL.

I know, right? The rest of the NFC East SUCKS lolol!!! I feel sorry for any team that can't put together a win against the stupid Foreskins! And those Shegals -- they barely won 50% of their matchups with the Giants. What losers. That is why the Giants DOMINATED their division last year and will continue to DOMINATE for the foreseeable future. It's because they're competing against a bunch of babies.

All that stats in the world can't seem to help you win an away game in the playoffs. I would would say that one factor of a top offense would be being able to win an away game against a 7-9 playoff team for example.
