I've said this elsewhere, and I repeat it here, subby:

He directed Gone Baby Gone and The Town. He's got Argo coming down the pike. This is a *good* thing.

So very right you are, TMLO. He belongs behind the camera.
In front? *shrug* Not so much, maybe...

This. Aside from a few good performances here and there, he's a MUCH better director than actor.

Unless, of course, we get the promise of Reindeer Games 2.

Not yet.

When can we get a REAL Hellblazer movie? Since reboots, sequels and prequels are all the rage, maybe we can get a British John Constantine...

His directing resume so far is pretty solid. Why not give him a big budget movie to see what he can do?

2012-08-08 10:42:11 PM
I'd much rather have him behind the camera than in front of it. "The Town" was really good. I'm not that big a fan of his acting.

Maybe DC/WB should work on creating a viable set of characters they can put into one movie. I've yet to see any film (including Nolan's Batman) that feel like they belong to the DC/Justice League universe. If they can just capture what Bruce Timm did with the animated DC universe (Batman: Animated Series, Superman: Animated Series, JL/U) they could have some AWESOME movies.

Hell, most of the projects that came out of the Animated DC Movie universe these last years have been excellent. (Under the Red Hood was phenomenal). They could even look to that as inspiration.

We all know they'll just do another origin story or some campy bullshiat.

He's a very fine director, as plenty others have said.

But WHY MORE SUPERHERO MOVIES???

He should stick with the Boston Noir genre, please.

This may get me to see Argo to determine if he could do a Justice League movie.

Yeah, that was pretty egregious. Almost worse than Tom Cruise as Lestat. Though I'd be happy with a competently done Sandman or Preacher movie as well.

I was going to point out what an amazing director he is, compared to actor. But I see its been covered here extensively. Carry on.

I wish they'd do a Batman film set in the 30's or 40's shot in black and white gumshoe noir style.

I'm all for Affleck getting more time behind the camera, because I think that he's a great director, but I don't think this is a good fit for anyone right now. They need to do what Marvel did, develop their universe first, see if they can get likable characters on their own before they try the big mashup.

2012-08-09 04:14:24 AM
As long as he don't use that Green Lantern, Bat nipple Batman, or Nicolas Cage Superman then it'll be okay.

BTW Ben was great in "Pay Check".

warner brothers/DC comics: still getting it hilariously wrong on all levels.

I never forgot his fake screenwriting oscar, but I think Afleck would treat the material honestly.

No one willingly hangs around with Kevin Smith unless they have geek in them.

Daredevil was not his fault.

2012-08-09 06:22:43 AM
They really have to lay some groundwork for this. Marvel did it right, introducing the heroes slowly and separately while weaving things together. If Man of Steel doesn't have any hint of a larger universe this Justice League enterprise is going to be very choppy, and probably just involve a full-universe reboot.

As it stands, one of their biggest problems is going to be replacing the Christian Bale/Christopher Nolan version of Batman, because the public loves that franchise right now, and seeing a different actor and style on the character will be odd. At least Spider-Man 3 was universally panned so not EVERYONE thought it was bizarre to see such a fast reboot. Batman is another story.

The director's cut of Daredevil is a much better movie, but it still has that completely stupid teeter-totter fight scene when he meets Elektra.

And you are correct: that movie would have been something of a mess with or without Afleck.

I'm with this guy. Affleck has proven himself to be a pretty good director. Sure, the subject pool isn't the biggest, but it's all been quality so far.

Sorry, but Nolan's universe doesn't fit the comics in my opinion... I've taken issues with those movies from the beginning...

Batman DOES need a reboot... and it needs a batman more like the animated series/arkham VGs...

I don't have high hopes for "Man of Steel"... though i'm not too much of a superman fan anyway... He's the lawful-good paladin of the the group...

Yup. Jeremy Renner came out of nowhere with The Hurt Locker (small roles up until then).

Now he's a major character in The Town, Hawkeye in Thor (cameo) and the Avengers, and the lead in the Borne Legacy ... he certainly hit the acting jackpot.

He was the main antagonist in SWAT in the early 2000s... I said then that he should see some big roles, then nothing until The Hurt Locker...

Fair enough. I wonder if he changed agents.

He was doing one-off tv appearances during that drought (the standard CSI and House type stuff that all non-A List actors do) then all of a sudden he'shiatting gold after gold.

Either he paid his dues and then did a great job of jumping on the Hurt Locker's success ... or he dumped his agent and got one who knows how to get movie work.

/pure speculation of course
