High prices for crappy food.

Eat at your local diner, folks. They actually have plates and silverware.

I wonder if legalized prostitution would help reverse this fattening trend? Egg mcmuffin v tossed salad? I know what I would pick. I'm jus saying if you give People real alternatives, they might make real choices.

I prefer places where the food is cooked onsite, and not just assembled from precooked ingredients just thawed this morning

Because TFA was about the gubmit wanting to outlaw fast food, ad not a mere overview of marketing tactics.

There's a politics tab somewhere on this site where you can bark stupidly and irrelevantly. Check it out.

I don't see a problem with this. It's not like their extended hours are forcing people to stay up 24 hours a day and eat 6 meals. They're trying to reach a different group of people - those who have to work starting at a ridiculous hour in the morning (or those who work overnight), or drunk people.

No, thank you. I don't feel like eating cow rectums today.

I gave up eating the run of the mill fast food in favor of gyros from a little chain just down the road. It may not be any healthier but it's damn tasty

You left out the unemployed. There are lots of them with nothing better to do at 3 am.

The Texaco by work has a great little Mexican cantina in the back. For breakfast they have bicuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, and breakfast pizza. For lunch you can get made from scratch gorditas with rice and a drink for less than the cheapest fast food value meal.

Why? Are they going to come to our houses and twist our arms and make us eat their food?

2012-08-08 08:42:04 PM
Why do people live to eat? It's ok to be hungry sometimes. It's ok to eat beans and drink water sometimes.

I like junk food just as much as the next guy, but a man really can live on beans, bananas, peanut butter and water. Foodies are like homosexuals -- addicted to and obsessed with nerve endings. Savages.

2012-08-08 08:42:09 PM
Wasn't it the fast food lobby channeled through the foodies that were saying that it was places like the Food Network and the Cooking Channel that were making people fat and unhealthy? Now they want to gorge you 24/7 for their own profit?

I like the cooking channels. You can make a decent meal at home, control the amount of crap (within reason) in the food, and maybe even do something quasi-gourmet...Unlike the swill coming out of a drive-thru window...

as well as vegetables and healthy food. you are so right, Solid Muldoon. fast food is no where the cheap meal it once was. we are much better off getting some nice Chinese take-out or the lunch special at a Diner. cheaper, healthier and a nicer environment. and you don't have to eat with your hands like a raccoon.

F*cking THIS. The little lady and I cook at home every day. There is the occasional meal out, but between the farmer's market and Kroger (for a few things) we eat very well. In fact, I eat healthier now than I ever have. I'm stopped craving fast food and soda, I'm losing weight, and I feel a hell of a lot better about myself.

That said, I now see how easy it is to judge others for their food choices. I used to find such judgements to sanctimonious and unwarranted. But now, I see how easy and cheap it is to eat healthy.

I couldn't go back to salt-laden crapburgers with fries and a 32oz of sugar water.

I guess I don't really object to more choices of food at more hours, but how often do people eat fast food, anyway? Once a week? If you can afford to eat out more often than that, wouldn't you be buying better-quality food elsewhere if it was available?

Hmm... All they are doing is offering foods at non standard times. Odds are the the person who comes in and orders the breakfast sandwich that is now available after midnight would have just ordered something else if that wasn't available.

Soda: Breakfast of Champions?
USA Today recently highlighted the mini push to encourage fast food diners to have a sugary soft drink with breakfast, rather than the usual orange juice or coffee.

A sweet, high calorie, high energy drink first thing in the morning? How absurd!

The Colonial American breakfast was far from the juice, eggs and bacon of today. The stoic early settlers rose early and went straight to the chores that demanded their attention. In frontier outposts and on farms, families drank cider or beer and gulped down a bowl of porridge that had been cooking slowly all night over the embers...In the towns, the usual mug of alcoholic beverage consumed upon rising was followed by cornmeal mush and molasses with more cider or beer.

Absurd!

You'll be hungry for coffee and eggs at 7:00 AM, a sandwich at 12:00 PM, and a steak with a vegetable at 6:00 PM and you'll like it. Pizza at 9:00 AM? Fark you, that's not in the rulebook.

And the money stays in the community, as opposed to being shipped off to NYC to pay for some CEOs yacht or help fund the parent company's latest project to make fuel from Africans.

Heh, "Savages" is what did it for me, making my reaction of the LOLWUT variety. I guess it's less likely to get bites, but it's more amusing.
