"I'm just gunna (sic) slam on the breaks for a bit"

What, you give "gunna" a (sic), but you don't for "breaks"? StarPulse, this suggests that you don't know that it's an error.

i don't understand the push to call the genre "EDM." when it was "techno" in the 90s it was criticized for being cold and sterile. so the answer was to rebrand it as an acronym that reminds people of some sort of clinical diagnosis?

well, techno is considered a genre within EDM. techno is not meant to be a generalized term synonymous with EDM.

has there been a dubstep-themed CSI show yet? like "the dubstep killer" or something? that's when you know the term has lost all meaning.

I've had Dubstep explained to me, and couldn't follow said explaination.

i mean he's still an house/electro-house/progressive house artist. he has worked with dub-steppers, but he certainly hasn't released a dubstep album.

Do I think his old stuff is dubstep? No.
Do I think his new stuff is dubstep? Some.

He's definitely not a nobody, but he's been collaborating with dubstep artists, and playing a lot of it in his mixes, and I think it's watered down his original electro-house style that originally made him stand out. There are a couple good tracks from 12 that are true to his form, but a lot of his stuff is schlock these days, imho.

i don't think making a dub song is really a change of his genre, but i guess it's fair to point out. and, jesus, it's really bad so i hope he doesn't try to master it. holy f*ck he's bad at it. and a 4-minute lead in? jesus.

that said i don't think it'll ruin his career. he has an unbelievable number of fans, so as long as his light show continues to melt faces, he can lean on moar ghosts for as long as EDM fans live.

truthfully, i don't get off much from him anymore because he leans on moar ghosts way too much and he also complains all the time on twitter (i should have never followed him, the person is not as cool as the producer)

I've seen some videos where he's at home making music, and he comes across as an asshole. I dunno, maybe he's not...

And I just found this, made me laugh.... he's basically admitting that he sold out to make a dubstep song, and then complains that other pop music acts are watering down his genre.

It's simple.

Take any track, slow it down, add bass. Speed it back up and it's drum step.

it's not exactly what you're looking for but i would try some "down-tempo" artists like kid loco or trance artists or something. i mean, i just listened to the mass effect theme from mass effect 1 and i would say that could be dance music.

anyway, try starting a kid loco pandora station or finding some other way of sampling a lot of down-tempo or trance artists. it's my favorite kind of EDM.

do you believe that? what kind of music do you listen to? i bet it has a lot of subgenres.

i would venture to make the opposite claim, that if you don't care to understand that broader genres of music have many distinct subgenres worth discussing, then you don't really care much about music beyond a superficial "i knows what i likes" level
