Let's ask Twitter and Facebook what the issue could be.

Well, what kind of farkstick wants to watch news all night?

During the same time slot over on Fox News, Sean Hannity averaged 1,749,000 total viewers and 324,000 in the 25-54 demo.

Oh.

Pretty much. There's a reason why the shows that do better with younger demographics cost more to advertise during, because they're a lot harder to hit with commercials.

Old people just sitting around watching TV? It's like shootin' fishin a barrel there's so many of them.

CNN is parade magazine on cable.

2012-08-08 03:35:28 PM
Their "virtual" theatrics are just inane, their reading of viewer's thoughts from Twitter is painfully boring and serves no purpose, and their constant demand to let them know what we want to see next just reeks of desperation.

In short they're inane, boring, and desperate.

2012-08-08 03:43:19 PM
This just in: CNN is garbage, Piers Morgan a tool, and his show a complete failure.

There may very well be a potential TV audience/market for hard news done well, with competent, fair analysis without histrionics or staged drama, coverage that's broad in scope both nationally and internationally, as well as with in-depth coverage of the most important issues of the day with thoughtful, reasoned debate.

They sure as hell wouldn't be watching CNN, though.

2012-08-08 04:14:04 PM
CNN has a slant, a boring slant but a slant nonetheless. Fox News is basically a bowl of turds without the turds, so that when viewers say "This bowl smells like a turd" Fox News can reply "We just provide the bowl."

I get my news from Al Jazeera and tune in to CNN when I'm in the mood for a sitcom.

I may have had something interesting to add to the discussion but I was instead reminded of my blinding hate for Piers Morgan.

Ashleigh Banfield is absolutely horrible as well; she crops up in the morning/afternoon slots occasionally and I wish to farking christ she wouldn't.

What in the bloody hell are you talking about? News people can relate to? You're not supposed to "relate" to the news, you're supposed to be informed by it. Fox viewers are, consistently, the worst informed viewers of any news station and probably less informed than people who just overhear people talking about the news at the water cooler.

Why?

Because Fox News lies. Consistently and deliberately.

CNN may be better at presenting actual news, but no one knows because no one can stay awake long enough while watching CNN to tell.

MSNBC tries, I'll give them that, but they can't help letting their own biases spill out over everything they do. At least they don't lie.

You want actual news, for the most part, watch BBC. They're not perfect, but they're a damn site better than anything the news networks here air.

Their solution is easy.

Wait and watch Jon Stewart's analysis team, and every time one of them leaves the Daily Show, hire them; Stewart's pulling 1.7 million viewers most weeks and it's not because he's writing his own jokes.

Unlike CNN, the Daily Show is actually a critical news source - they look at the stories and say "what's wrong with this picture" and then report it. With a comical twist, true, but that's just one extra step.

When I get ready for work in the morning I tune to CNN morning shows for background noise. Their actual news coverage is crap. instead of talking about the issues or current events, they always go with interviewing some celebrity. When they do get a decent interview they either A. let them go through their talking points without any sort of challenge to what they're saying or B. try to ask them the "hard" questions which usually consists of interrupting the speaker constantly to ask really dumb questions.

2012-08-08 05:36:22 PM
CNN is really a sad shadow of its former self. The only thing I really watch there anymore is GPS with Fareed Zakaria. In my opinion, they need to do what nobody else is doing, which is to be a credible, (relatively) unbiased, investigative, national news channel.

They should sell it back to Ted Turner and let him come in like an onion-belt-wearing Steve Jobs of the News and revitalize things.

2012-08-08 05:36:37 PM
I think it's fairly obvious that the demographics of cable news watchers and Americans as a whole are very different.

Holy fark, I watched a bit of CNN last week, and they were interviewing a celebrity. You mean they do this all the time? It was horrifying.

It's amazing how much people care about cable news ratings. The whole medium is increasingly irrelevant. Even Fox News' ratings are crap, as conservatives are now moving to "new media" (ie chain email)

2012-08-08 05:51:49 PM
I tried to get some news the morning after the Mars rover landing.
FoxNews: OMG HARRY REID SAID THIS!!! - 45 minutes, followed by a supermodel interview.
MSNBC: HARRY REID SAID THIS, but he's a nice guy - 20 mins, then all the hosts whining about statistics being hard to understand or boring while an economist broke down the election in simple terms.
CNN: The guy from Extreme Home Makeover is doing a thing for veterans and other softball pieces

The level of stupidity on cable news is farking insulting.

And as long as they insist on putting graphics on a screen then pointing a camera at the screen I refuse to watch on principle. Just put the damn graphics on MY screen. I don't need a middle-cameraman.

or i love how ESPN and CNN love to show a guy standing in front of a 64" HDTV with either poll results, electoral college votes, salary cup numbers, playoff projections, free agent moves, etc., and then shows the guy dragging and dropping the data from here to there on this giant farking tv. (and also, how the drag and drop feature always sucks; he's like, "ok.......hhhhhhhhheere.....ok hold on........hhhhhhhere, if we take this.....and ......move it........hold on....come on.....hhhhhhhhhhhere we go.....ok......."

i knwo, marshall mcluhan, "the medium is the message", but....come one.

"Yo dawg, we heard you like HDTV so what we did, is we put a guy playing HDTV on your HDTV because we heard you like HDTV so we are showing a guy on your HDTV but he's playing with an HDTV so you can watch HDTV of a guy playign with HDTV on your HDTV in HDTV so you watch HDTV while you get your HDTV on because we heard you like HDTV, dog."

I saw NASCAR doing that as well. they had Ricky or Terry or Rickie or Bobby or Kenny or Dale or Junior or Ricky Bobby Junior or Rickie Terry or Kenny Ricky or Dale Bobby or Dale Dale or Junior Kenny or Ricky Rickie or Rickie Ricky Junior moving various teams around on the board and i'm like, godammit.

Just put the shiat on my screeen and move it the conventional way. Televising a guy playing with a TV, and poorly at that, is just a waste of time.

CNN is biased towards pure stupid.

After catching snippets of various Fox News shows, I would really like to see a comparison between all the news channels on how many times "Obama" or "The President" is uttered per minute. My suspicion is that Fox would have at least double what the others do. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if all the talking heads have been instructed to .

You realize that's impossible when you're part of a media conglomerate right? Americans are encased in a cone of silence with regards to knowing what is happening in their own country. Anything truly important probably costs someone money if they report it. So they don't. All journalism in the US is today is a concerted attempt to keep Americans distracted from all the heinous shiat done to them, and done in their name. There hasn't been a managed underclass like this since the aristocracy collapsed.

I avoid the news channels and didn't realize it was a thing now, but man I'm sick of the Twitter redux on the olympic coverage. If I wanted twitter updates, I'd USE TWITTER YOU TWITS!

Not to mention their 'coverage' of twitter sends is synced to the sports they're covering, so at least 8 hours old.

Most watched news network in the US maybe. However the vast VAST majority get their news from CBS, NBC, ABC. If real networks got the average audience that Fox News got, they'd shut their news programs down yesterday.

Fox News reach is horrifically overreported. There are 300 million people in this country. I don't care what 2 million people that are going to die soon think.
