"Wind energy will thrive wherever it is economically competitive, and wherever private sector competitors with far more experience than the president believe the investment will produce results.

I wonder what he thinks about corn subsidies? Shouldn't they compete in the private sector without any help from the government?

He should bring that up too. Also in Iowa.

Awww, so you mean that opposing and promising to repeal everything that Obama has had a hand in for the last 4 years isn't a winning strategy?

He was against Cape Wind so at least he's consistent on this one. I mean who wants a windmill blocking the view from your mansion? Gross. Also, he's getting plenty of funding from none other than the Koch brothers, and that money comes from good old fashioned oil and coal. But this is all about the Free Market, of course.

To be fair, Mitt's investment in Quantum Political Superposition invalidates any claim he might have as a windsock...

The ONLY criteria that matters when evaluating a source of energy is how much money it will make someone.

He must also be in favor of getting rid of all the subsidies and tax breaks that the oil companies receive.

Vodka Zombie: Bullshiat. Romney will tell those useless rubes whatever they want to hear, and they'll lap it up.

That should be the case, but it's not. What's happening is that Romney, to use the popular robot metaphor, seems to be "shorting out", saying something to Group A that would only resonate with Group B, then pissing off Group B by taking a position held by Group C and managing to do that in a way that even Group C doesn't like.

"I understand why they are very critical of the whole thing that was done by the Obama administration with regard to the stimulus and some of the money that was wasted on Solyndra, and some of these green energy projects didn't make sense," Branstad told Radio Iowa. "The tax credit, however, is a much different thing, and it way preceded Obama, and it was actually something that Sen. Grassley authored and has made a real difference over time."

"Wait, cutting spending means cutting things I like too?!"

2012-08-08 02:24:49 PM
"He will allow the wind credit to expire, end the stimulus boondoggles, and create a level playing field on which all sources of energy can compete on their merits,"

Holy shiat this guy has absolutely no clue how energy works in this country.

Q: why is it so windy in Iowa?

A: because Minnesota sucks, and Missouri is a decent place to live but on the whole is not very pleasant!

I thought he was actually against corn subsidies, at least for ethanol. Or was that T-Paw?

2012-08-08 02:25:54 PM
Huh...I didn't realize polling in Iowa had the race so close there.

Blow hard, Mittens, blow hard.

2012-08-08 02:26:48 PM
So he thinks we're in an energy crisis but doesn't want to explore other forms of energy than oil and natural gas? What a farking windbag.

2012-08-08 02:27:13 PM
And it unsettled many of Romney's top Iowa supporters, who publicly complained they had been caught off guard by his campaign's policy decision.

If you have been following his campaign the only way you would be caught offguard is if he actually didn't flip-flop.

Oh, and last I checked, the Tea Party was pretty pissy about farm subsidies in general, or did that ag bill the postpones things from the 1930s pass?

meat0918: Oh, and last I checked, the Tea Party was pretty pissy about farm subsidies in general, or did that ag bill the postpones things from the 1930s pass?

It's the typical line of telling people what they want to hear, we saw it all over the primaries.

Iowa - We're gonna cut spending, but not farm subsidies!
Florida - We're gonna cut spending, but not medicare/social security!
South Carolina - We're gonna cut spending, but not military/defense!

They're not going to cut spending. Everyone agrees cutting spending is great until it comes time to actually cut stuff, then someone pops up and says "well hey, you can't cut that!" So they say ok, we'll cut something else. And someone else says "nope can't cut that."

If subsidies help already existing rich corporations increase profits, they're free-market. If they help newer industries start, they're socialist.

He's not going to touch the oil and gas subsidies, you know. He's just making those "fiscally responsible" noises about the alternative energy subsidies.

And when he cuts NPR's budget, the deficit will be completely gone...

What? If I start a small wind farm today I'll be on a level playing field with Exxon.

TFA: And it unsettled many of Romney's top Iowa supporters, who publicly complained they had been caught off guard by his campaign's policy decision.

If you vote for Romney, then you'd better get used to this feeling. At this point, when he has released very few details about his plans, every policy decision is going to either be a surprise or contradict a previous stance.

So public investment in infrastructure and industry helps businesses get off the ground and, in turn, employ more people, which increases the middle class tax base, which then allows more public investment in infrastructure and industry? Incredible.

But how do the wealthy benefit from this crackpot scheme?

2012-08-08 02:34:48 PM
No on wind subsidies! Yes on gas and oil subsidies!

rickythepenguin: Q: why is it so windy in Iowa?

If the southern counties seceded from Iowa and joined Missouri, the average intelligence of both states would rise.

2012-08-08 02:35:49 PM
Romney's still not black, so he's got that going for him.

2012-08-08 02:37:16 PM
Romney at least can afford to purchase his own wind farm for mobile battery charging without government assistance.

2012-08-08 02:38:07 PM
"He will allow the wind credit to expire, end the stimulus boondoggles, and create a level playing field on which all sources of energy can compete on their merits," Romney spokesman Shawn McCoy told the Register.

But the amount of pollution produced by each source of energy will never come into play when determining what a 'level playing field' might be.

I don't understand the energy thing.

The republican position is that energy is expensive, we are in the middle of a crisis, so we should stop exploring and funding alternative sources of energy and double down on expendable sources of fossil fuel?

Is there anyone stupid enough to believe that subsidizing alternative energy sources will drive prices up and this isn't just an idiotic way of saying "fossil fuels are bankrolling my campaign"?

I've worked in the wind industry for 3 years now. There are a lot of jobs that are going to go down the toilet if that PTC doesn't pass. We have already suffered for the past 2 years. No one wants to invest with the uncertainty looming. So I would like to thank congress and Mittens for my current underemployment and my future unemployment.

Jobs my ass. Rmoney doesn't give a shiat about jobs...

He also opposed the LNG facility Hess was trying to put in a residential area in my hometown... He never got a chance to back that up as no legislation ever reached his desk while he was Governor.

'Course, I'm sure ol' Windsock Romney is now a big proponent of putting LNG facilities in densely populated areas.
