Oh, that's making me hungry. :|

2012-08-08 01:56:38 PM
I was already fairly aware of global poverty. But thanks.

2012-08-08 01:57:55 PM
Hey! I'm eatin' hear! Can't you see I'm eatin'?

2012-08-08 01:58:08 PM
So when's the 21,000 guys/1 girl bukkake? You know, for charity.

2012-08-08 02:01:35 PM
I sometimes smash my hand with a hammer to raise awareness for heart disease... so I can completely relate to what these guys are doing.

2012-08-08 02:01:45 PM
There is global poverty? I was completely unaware!!!!

It'll never happen. The most I've seen is 100.

2012-08-08 02:02:32 PM
Couldn't we just pay to shoot poor people?

2012-08-08 02:02:45 PM
In a row?

I hate these I'm going to "ride my bike/jog/boat/get shot by paintballs" to raise awareness for [insert cause here] activities. You're not doing shiat to raise awareness for crap. All you're doing is taking a hobby you enjoy while trying to get other people to pay for it and make yourself feel that you're "helping" so you can feel good. At the end of the day, you haven't helped anyone except yourself.

/The true folks who do the most work are the ones who never want credit for it.
/And, gasp, a lot of those are folks who attend church regularly.

I have but one word: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Not bad, but I like it better when they make me burgers

Fark link to a buzzfeed article ripping something from reddit. It's like some aggravating circle of life.

Are there some global issues a lot of us are unaware of? Raise awareness for those issues.
ps: I'd rather clean up poverty in my city, then my state, then the U.S.. long before I'd care about hte global scene.

What a waste. Just think about how many Chinese kids you could feed with all those paintballs.

I'm going to get blown by 3 chicks at once to raise awareness for global poverty.

Attn. hot chicks: You DO want to help the poor, right?

My hometown is doing a cancer awareness campaign right now. By this point, I'm pretty sure everyone is well aware of cancer.

this kind of argument reminds me of arguments people make not to tip. on the surface, perhaps you're being clever. but, in reality, you're just justifying selfishness.

on the individual level, it's nice to have the right moral intent to do good for the sake of doing good. That's great, I try to do good deeds in this fashion. maybe I affect a couple of people in a local area. that's great. but, I haven't changed the world, I just helped a couple of people.

then I started working with charities. My Weeners was, this is bullcrap, just a big party and a waste of time and money so everyone can feel good about themselves. there's too much waste, it's all crap.

then I started seeing positive change result from some bs crappy charity event. Before some bs event, no one was making any money to help solve a problem. afterwards, you made a lot of money. perhaps 50% gets eaten up in costs (in the absolute worst cases). but the other 50% goes to the cause. For having a bs feelgood crapfest, you just raised a lot of money and awareness to an issue. Without the bs feelgood crapfest, there would be no money. Just remember that. Without that retarded "raise awareness" event, there would be no money. most people don't go out of their way to sacrifice for strangers. and, even when they can, most people, alone, don't have the resources to actually help. that's how these events work. They aggregate resources so that everyone can give a little to effectuate positive change.

i don't give a fark on earth why someone does something or gives to a charitable cause. to feel good, to cheat on taxes, whatever. the money goes in and it goes to the cause.

sometimes, in real life, the result is more important than everybody's emotional feelings going in.

Sorry, but the worst way to help any cause is to give money, unless you want to help some administrator buy a bigger cause.

Right now I have 2 small children, so my time is limited. However, this weekend for example, I bought a few extra school supplies to donate directly to my daughter's school. That way I know they'll be used and not returned to the store.

CSB: Back in the 1990s, the company that I owned and another local company had a "back-to-school" supply giveaway. I dished out several hundred dollars in a "goodwill" effort to help the allegedly less fortunate. Two days later, I get a call from the local Walmart that gave me a discount on the supplies, saying the supplies that I bought for the giveaway were being returned by the folks who attended the giveaway.

(Oh, and for the Fark racists, it was an all-white county.)

Since then, I'm like: "Fark you," and only give directly to the schools.

The show "Figure it Out" will give you a pretty good idea what it would look like.

Especially when it's Victoria Justice.

21,000/200 rounds per hopper = 105 shooters (didn't look like 105ppl shooting in that film)
21,000/2000 per case = 10.5 cases
Average case cost = $40
Total cost (taking for granted that marker rentals were gratis) $420 for a stunt that ultimately won't do much to get people to give to end poverty. Way to waste a bunch of cash that could have gone to a food bank, or school supplies for underprivileged kids, etc.

Feeding the poor only creates more poor. If you feed five, then next year you'll have six to feed. My take-away from this awareness drive is that society needs to understand the best way to prevent hunger is to shoot the hungry so they don't bring more hungry mouths into the world. For that understanding, I thank these five brave men of real genius.

I've been playing paintball since '96 and I get hit by about 21,000 paintballs every day I play. Unfortunately I was trying to promote global starvation. Sorry about that.

This!

Why not go and buy non-perishables and other food and go feed the local needy families.

I hate to see the videos of how poor people live in many countries, as it's just sad that humans have to live in such a way, and the fact is, there's only so much that can be done. Even sadder is that in so many circumstances, the "help" sent gets intercepted by the stronger coalitions and such and never goes to the right people.

There's so much wrong with the world, that I just think that it's better to try to be involved as much as possible in your own area. It would be a much better gesture for all these people to go and find things to do to assist people instead of this sort of show. Go help a poor family, an elderly person to rebuild their roof or other repairs to their house, or such thing... help build a safe park for the kids and set up activities for them. Set up activities to show them something new, to teach them new skills, etc.

Volunteer for handicapped people, etc.

But to stand there and waste money and believe that you're making a difference?... a bad bad usage of the hero tag.

For a time, I worked at a comics and games shop, and we sold paintball supplies as well. We had a MAC-10 simulator that was designed for training use by the FBI, etc., and nobody would buy one because the rounds were propelled by gunpowder, and the muzzle velocity was far too high to use on a standard field. We always wanted to see what one would do, though, so one of the employees volunteered to be shot with one.

We took him out back, blindfolded him and left a cigarette dangling from his mouth. I cannot imagine what the neighbors thought. One guy shot him with a full-auto burst, and he fell to the ground screaming. Later, he lifted his shirt to show a line of neatly-spaced welts running from his shoulder to his hip. Had it been a real weapon, it likely would have cut him in half. It raised awareness of pain and amusement.

I call bul*S*T, in a major way, Those balls were not travelling at the formerly manly
speed of 325 FPS which was allowed back when...

Do you know fast that is?

it's so fast it's 50% the speed some real firearms. (granted large slugs, low muzzle vel.)
It's so fast if you hit someone in older goggles with some mileage, they would break, and slupdge you.
It's so fast if I hit you with it at 3 ft, in side of the ribs (about elbow low) you would crumple up like a girl
it's so fast you could not duck out of the way at 30 Ft like some pansy ass 250Fps game fields.
It's so fast you would lose an eye if struck un protected.
It's so fast you would rather throw youself in a muddy brook to avoid being shot more.
it's so fast it has an equivalent energy of about 50% largest legal firecraker in the USA.

The old way is the best, each man had ten shots and that was it. made for better tactics
than the Grease Guns folks use these days.

Ok, joking aside, these guys hearts are in the right place, just not their brains. Perhaps they could get a booth at a local carnival, dress like douches and talk trash to everyone who walks by. A barker would offer a paintball gun with 10 shots for $5 if the passerby would like to "get even". All proceeds go to local food pantry, and if they take 21k paintballs, they raise $10,500!

THEN they would be heroes - douchy, trash talking (and very sore) heroes.

My marui runs at 400 FPS. Just sayin'.

MoronLessOff: My marui runs at 400 FPS. Just sayin'.

20 years ago in my league days, lots of guys were ramping up their markers (except back then we called them 'guns' because we weren't PC douches yet). Canadian law says anything under 500fps isn't a firearm, so it wasn't unheard of to see guys pushing 475 or so. I never cared that much and went pretty much off-the-shelf with everything, but some guys would spend long hours and big bucks trying to get more muzzle velocity.

For insurance and probably legal purposes, my local field clocks every gun at the start of the day.

Our "local fields" tend to be more along the lines of "Random Guy's unused Farmland, Junkyard and Paintball Emporium", but even among some of the more organized outfits I've never seen that. Interesting.

I am totally aware of global poverty - I'm just too poor to do anything about it.

also, we COULD feed everybody on the planet if we wanted. It's just a matter of logistics and the will to do it.

2012-08-08 04:46:42 PM

Wow...that is just what the impoverished among us need. Now they can grab their wallets and head down to the bank all because of paint balls. Who would have thought it. After centuries of the existence of poor people in America, they can now rest assured that their problems are over because of this paintball exercise!
