TV's Vinnie: So,does that mean if we get four parrots together we can have them write US fiscal policy?

Hey, just look at Grover Norquist.

I think they would blow it all on Grape flavored Nerds.

Lollipop165: Lady Indica: I love my Grey, but they are NOT for everyone.

I VERY much want a sun conure... but I realize just how much work they are (and with such long lives - yikes!). I have 2 dogs and a cat I can barely keep up with. But I hear parrots are even more demanding.

I have a sun Conure and I can tell you now that if you can't keep up with 2 dogs and a cat then you sure can't keep up with a Sun conure.

They are little birds with very big personalities. They need lots of interaction and if they don't get it then there will be problems. They have wants And have ways of expressing them so you have to be tuned in.
They can very very social but they can also decide they don't like somebody for some reason known only to them.

They aren't known for talking but they generally learn a few words. They can mimic sounds though.

They have a real reputation for being noisy. This is because there call is ear splitting at close range.

These little guys are a bundle of energy and need to have a way to release it. Lots and lots of toys.

Conures are extremely popular, and I have a GCC, but parakeets are an underrated companion bird.

I didn't know that toddlers pined for the fjords.

Green cheeks are really great birds. They are the easiest of the conures, not that they are easy, and are happy to give. If agree that parakeets are underrated. They are a lot of fun.

I think conures are so popular partly because of their size. People make the mistake of thinking that a smaller bird is easier to deal with.

all Conures are noisy but the Aratingas as a group have a real reputation. If he's on my shoulder and lets out a full bore call, it will ring your brain.
He knows he is not suppose to do that and he will laugh and then give with the kisses just to show you it was a joke. They have a sense of humor and it is funny when they get the better of you. The first time they punk you and then laugh it is a real eye opener.

My SC really defies the norm. He know when quite time is and he will happily play/destroy with his toys until it's time for morning tea and toast. He'll ask to go to bed and be covered up. He will even adjust the cover so that it is exactly the way he wants it.
During the day he lets us know when the mail came or if somebody is at the door or if he wants something. Other than that, he's quite (except when he's not).

We have had birds before so we knew the deal. We got him young. He picked us. Hand fed him with lots of close physical contact. Got him on a routine that he them modified to suite his needs.
As a result, it's all good.
Best of all, he's potty trained. Actually he trained himself.

They are great animals if your willing to put in the time it takes to build a relationship with them.
You just can't treat them like a cat or dog. Much more complex than a dog and more social than a cat.

The comment about living with a little green alien is oh so true.

/no pic of my SC 'cause if you seen one you seen them all.

If they're this clever, it's a good thing dinosaurs aren't as big as they used to be.

Here's hoping that most birds are dipshiats by comparison to grey parrots. Especially cassowaries.

Lady Indica: My caiques have a more base sense of humor, they find injuries funny, and physical comedy.

So, they're as smart as the first employee I fired. Man, I hated her. Evil, stupid, snot-ass biatch. She's a cop now, in a very corrupt force. She's totalled six cars (last I heard; I'm sure it's more now).
