Maybe its because the number of men who want to look like this comprise between 2 and 3% of the population?

If he really wanted to capture the US market he'd sell "I beat Anorexia" t-shirts in XXXL:

With the jaunty berets and the gigantic Polo logo on the jackets, I felt like the uniforms made our nation look like that dochey rich kid from the 80s movies that the hero of the movie had to beat to win the girl.

Up by where my parents live in DE there is a Polo outlet store on black fridays there is always a line out the door. I went in one year and the "sale" didnt seem like much of a sale at all.

Speaking as an old school prep, I have never bought any of Ralph's claptrap at full price. Same goes for Original Penguin wear -- I visit the place twice a year to buy 3-4 shirts at half off, even then they are taking advantage of me.

Ben Sherman and Fred Segals? Yeah, I've paid full pop for stuff from them -- but not often.

Some things just fail my cost to value calculation. Yes I can afford that stuff, but in my mind, it's dumb to spend that much on a bit of cloth.

material cost + labor cost + shipping cost = intrinsic base value

intrinsic base value + a reasonable profit margin + style bonus = what I'm willing to pay

To get to $30 for a pair of men's socks, they would have to be one bad assed pair of socks. Like made of silk or kevlar or something.

OTOH, a GIS for "silk socks" brought this up

And I would call that $30 well spent :D

RL is hit or miss quality wise. If you thrift it or get it on a really good sale, it's worth it. Full price? No.
The RRL vintage like is quite nice though, though pricey as hell.

I never get why people buy this stuff full price. I buy designer stuff at the Ross across the street from my office at usually 40-80% off. Last pack of 6 pairs Kenneth Cole dress socks I bought were like $10, retail is $8 a pair.

Belts, wallets, ties, any other accessory like that, straight to Ross.
