The teen collapsed and was hospitalized Tuesday after becoming severely dehydrated.

Perfect marketing opportunity. Mountain Dew should send him a case of whatever flavor they're currently trying to promote.

Caffeine dries you out, it's a diuretic. Well, if you drink enough of it. One of those douchey power aid drinks would have better luck.

The f*ck kind of parent allows their kid to play Xbox for 4 days straight?

That is just pathetic on so many levels.

Well actually, if you drink it regularly, the diuretic effect becomes negligible. What I mean is it doesn't dry you out. Better ask Hollywood Upstarts for a partial refund. I think ima bout to get my period.

Please stop parroting this. It's an issue if you take caffeine pills. The diuretic effect isn't powerful enough to overcome the actual hydration of the liquid it's in for pretty much any drink. Source: The Mayo Clinic

Recent research has shown the diuretic effect only kicks in over 500 to 600 milligrams of caffeine a day, so we're talking in the range of 18 to 22 12 oz. bottles of Dew or 6 to 8 two liter bottles. I've known some pretty serious soda drinkers, but I've never seen that.

Take that kid away from his negligent mother. Taking away the X-Box should have happened days earlier, probably months or years.

I don't typically advocate such things, but in this case, this parent is a bad parent, despite the whole taking the xbox away...

My kids know if they don't turn off the games when I tell them too, they don't get to play them for a while. I'll give them a reasonable amount of time to finish a level or get to a save point, but once I say turn it off, it goes off.

He took breaks to shower? That shows poor judgement - on the internet, no one can smell you stink. Break time is for naps, craps, and food. Shower when you're done.

(Not a gamer, but long ago learned the proper way to string together all-nighters.)

I used to do 4 day streaks regularly when I was younger, by day 3 it seems to get rather weird though. At home (when it was quiet) I'd start hearing voices and have conversations with them but then I'd look over and no one was there. At school people thought I was stoned out of my farking mind because of the way it allowed me to think.

/can't play games anymore, they seem to put me to sleep in less than an hour.

How the crap do you play Modern Warfare 3 for four days straight? I could see Minecraft or Skyrim, but honestly was he trying to travel the multiplayer world and call everyone as many expletives in as many languages as possible?

As long as you're providing them with an alternative activity in lieu of the game, then kudos.
I hate the parents who are all "stop playing the game... I don't care if you stare into the sky picking your nose, just no more games..." Be a parent, provide them alternatives!

*facepalm*

The stuff is, like, 90% water by volume and probably more than that by weight. There's no way the diuretic effect of the 50 or so milligrams of caffeine are going to offset that.

Lucky you.

My step dad used to drink a 24 pack of Mountain Dew/other soda a day. Seriously. He ended up at 490lbs before his lifestyle had him under the surgeon's knife for neck problems which then led to him being paralyzed when post surgery swelling pinched a nerve and left him paralyzed from the waist down.

He's finally, finally down to 350lb after nearly 5 years, 100 of that is within the last year because he as finally diagnosed with diabetes. He's been able to walk around if he's in a pool with the water supporting his weight for about 3 years. You'd think that would be enough motivation to lose the weight, but it took freakin diabetes to do it.

//Rant over.

They then run around outside in the front yard, find bugs in the garden, graze nearly all the berries or beans or peas or whatever happens to be ripe, ride their bikes up and down the street and generally do the things the media keeps telling me no one allows their kids to do anymore.

We apologized to some of the old folks in the neighborhood for some of the noise, but they said that it was a wonderful, wonderful noise to hear again.

When we moved to our new place 3 years ago, none of the other kids played outside. Now, I have trouble keeping my kids inside and the other neighborhood kids from raiding my garden and fridge.

Ha, on the xbox you just set the family timer and the problem solves itself. My kids get 2 hours during the summer, one during the school year. If they ignore the 15 minute warning it's too bad (I'll sometimes add 15 minutes to let them hit a save point if their chores and/or homework are done).

As bad as it is to see kids wasting their lives with this bullshiat, as opposed to spending their time doing something meaningful - worse by far is to see a grown man immersed in it. Get a life - a REAL life, you worthless, fatass, couch potatoe bastards!

Funny thing, they really did like the purple berries more(and the purple flowers), and these are really astringent, but tasty once juiced and a little sugar added.

*Does my pre-CSB stretches

When I was in High School, my best friend's little brother would play Counterstrike for days at a time during summer or spring break. After a little while he would get really spooky.

He would take little tweaker naps in his computer chair every once in a while. He'd come upstairs wearing nothing but a white t-shirt and boxers with a blanket wrapped around his legs (we called it the cancer blanket) just long enough to eat something. It would be the middle of summer and he would look all greasy and pale.

The weirdest part was the way after a few hours of gaming, he would be completely oblivious to the outside world. He was working on a project to replace all the sounds of the game with horrifically gruesome ones. He listened to different audio clips of gunshots for hours trying to pick the perfect AK-47 sound.

One time I walked in on him working on his audio program tweaking the sound of someone getting stabbed. It was this wet, crunching, close, raggedy breathing, sticky sounding thing that disturbed even an internet-jaded 17 year old like me. I stood there for 10 minutes while he played the sound over and over in the dark and he never even knew I was there.

*Post- CSB gatorade and shower
