$59,000 sounds like a lot but, if you're going to give yourself a Hummer, you've got to be flexible.

59 grand and I'm guess that doesn't count the engine. Seems like a lot for a kit car

Did you wish REALLY HARD?

Umm... as far the the military, soft door, soft topped only doesn't work. That's the military you have to send to war not the military you want to send to war. Though It shouldn't cost 2.95 million for uparmor and an drivetrain.

Also, $59K... or you could to DRMO or a military auction and get a really HUMVEE with a blown engine for a fraction of that.

That's an awful lot without the engine/transmission... unless it has some extra fancy suspension that'd make a furd raptor cry

Or you could take the jeep or truck you already have, spend 10 grand and get heavy duty customized rape at an "offroad outfitter", then spend 15 grand on the biggest engine and built transmission that fits- all with a warranty and your 500+ hp monstrosity still comes out way ahead

Customized rape? I think I'll pass.

Why not? I know on my previous truck with loose-ish steering, the aftermarket beefy steering upgrade was ~$300, and the recommended brackets were ~$200. Just for the steering parts. But, paying that + labor you still likely come out ahead than the 59 grand kit!

Extra fancy suspension is pretty much what make a Humvee, well, a Humvee. Of course it is not extra fancy RAPE custom suspension, but you really can't have that as a government contractor. (unless you get a Blackwater arbitration clause)

Thanks, but no thanks. If I want a kit, I'd go for the Badlands RT.

Link

Can be completed for $25k

and it has real doors and a roof.

Can't I just put wheels and a motor on a steel garden shed and call it a day?

Lost Thought 00: 59 grand and I'm guess that doesn't count the engine. Seems like a lot for a kit car

Nor does it include the transmission. Plus, it has only soft doors and top(Which would be my personal preference, but not for that kind of money), and the article even states that it is "stripped down" when compared to an H1.
Here's what I found after a quick Googling of the searching:
1998 Hummer for sale

HUMMER h1
black
53,000 miles
ctis on board air compressor
warn wench
new tires
dvd an vhs with two screens
EVERY option but leather
flawless paint. nice!
$35,000

AND a hard top and doors.

Hell, I'd love to have an H1, but I think I'd opt for the '98, especially when you look at the pics. That snazzy car phone in the bottom pic rules! Seriously though, it actually looks more convenient for just straight phone calls, nobody texting and emailing, shiat like that. Hell, maybe I'll switch over in my car, too... :-)

Doesn't have portals which I am pretty sure the TFA has. However looking at how crappy Humvees articulate that may not be a bad thing.

i've seen some pretty clean fauxrarri kits before; a guy in san antonio has a jet black body kit on an 87 GT V6 complete with the gullwing doors and all.

if the can justify the difference between the civilian cost and the military version with a detailed accounting that is double check by an outside accountant with no links to either side then fine.

if not sorry sparky cut it down to a proper price. no more gouging the military.

Can they do a hot drop from a C-130 into my driveway? Because THAT would be cool.
