Maybe Comcast didn't turn in their converter box within 30 days. That would explain the extra 2.4M. They really should review their contract before they go around saying 'some mean old people ripped them off'.

Their lawyers said "We have a promotional deal where you'll get both advice and representation in court for $200/hr for the first six months," and a few months later it quadrupled.

Comcast kept telling us we needed to upgrade our 2.0 cable modem. Obviously they wanted us to stop using our paid-for old model and start leasing their new 3.0 model. So my wife bought a 3.0 to take full advantage of Comcast's new "blazingly fast internet."
That and we got tired of the internet constantly disconnecting, which was a recent trend that happened to coincide with Comcast telling us to upgrade.
Once we got everything up and running we are now able to fully experience the 6.45 mbps speeds we've "upgraded" to.
We had anywhere from 4 - 8 mbps prior to the switch.
We are paying for up to 150 mbps.
Money well spent.

How is this illegal... I mean, they are providing "Consulting services" .

shiat like this happens all the time in other industries, where people who have experience at a particular company or industry are hired out to tell the Govt/Corporation how to save money when dealing with a particular situation.

If the consumers saved money then there is NO WAY this should be illegal.

Go fark yourself Comcast. I'm on Verizon now which is totally the same thing in every way better visit our website and buy things citizen

If I understand they hacked in (or had an inside employee) set the account to the best available rate for the customer. I got the same deal though Comcast directly by explaining I would need to cancel Cable if they couldn't lower the rates. My bill now says 2/2005 Promotional. It's fixed about the same rate as their current promotional rates.

"They were more creative in the way that they stole, but these people are nothing more than common thieves," said Ferman.
Again like RIAA, I don't see how this is theft, or how they got the 2.4million figure. Fraud I can see, but it's not theft.

You have a screwy pay schedule system where two neighbors with the exact same service will pay wildly varying fees. You keep increasing the cost until the consumer cries uncle then start all over again. Don't be surprised when you set up a system of gaming the bills, then find out you got gamed.

6.45 mbps is in the range of "up to" 150 mbps. Anything above zero is in that range since they didn't specify a lower limit.

Sucker!

This is why I keep receipts for everything that I check out/return from them, and I do the returns myself at the local Cocmast store. They tried that crap on me about 10 years ago.

/FIOS, when are you coming to my subdivision?

I have used Adelphia, comcast, At&t, and using verizon now. Have to say Verizon has the best service and connection. If you think Comcast is bad meet At&t . Its thw single most worst telecom company ever. I hate apple for keeping them in business. If it wasnt for iphone they would have melted away slowly. My cable bill went from 120 to 170 after promotion. Canceled it promptly.

2012-08-08 09:24:27 AM
We switched to fios because I got tired of comcast whimsically hiking our bill or screwing up our payments. Tired of comcast insisting I hadn't returned equipment and threatening to report it on my credit score, even though I had documented proof I had returned the equipment. Tired of the slow service and obnoxious representatives. We've only had fios for a few months, so time will tell, but so far they've won the "at least they aren't Comcast!" award.

It's kind of sad when your cable bill is more than your car payment. I still don't get the concept of paying high prices for something that's laden with advertising.

Maybe in another 5 years the satellite providers will have a lot more competitive options and cable will be a thing of the past.

No matter how much we all despise Comcast, it was still theft. Nothing to applaud as every little loss of profit causes overall rate hikes for everyone else.

I see now how we made you feel when we made you sit home waiting. I dunno why we do it. I guess maybe we just kind of enjoy taking advantage of people. Well, that's gonna change. From now on, no more 'nine to twelve', no more 'one to five'. We're gonna have appointments. Eleven o'clock is gonna mean eleven o'clock. And, if we can't make it, we're gonna call you, tell you why. For god's sakes, if a doctor can do it, why can't we? Anyway, that's it.

Marcintosh: It'll be really difficult to find a jury that will convict anyone of anything in this case . . .

Each of the top-level six is charged with corrupt organizations, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity, criminal conspiracy, theft, computer trespass and related offenses. These cases are being prosecuted by the captain of the economic crimes team, Assistant District Attorney John F. Walko.

I was wondering about that. Corrupt organization..... well that depends on if anything illegal was done. Same with Dealing in proceed of Unlawful Activity. I'm not convinced this is theft, they didn't take any cash from Comcast. Computer tresspass, maybe. Depending on if they hacked into the system, or if someone with the proper authorization made the changes.

However the system is set up to protect and serve corporate interests. If Comcast isn't happy they will move their* tax revenue out of the county where the courthouse. *They don't pay much (if any) taxes of course but they do employ people who do pay income taxes.

I hated Comcast until I got Time Warner.

For Mayweather's last fight I got PPV. The PPV was only in Standard Def. When I called to mention that I couldn't get the HD version, they informed me that I had purchased "the standard def version, if you'd like it in HD you need to purchase it on the HD channel as well."

Really? REALLY?!?!?!?

IT'S THE SAME FARKING FIGHT.

God I miss Comcast.

Every cent of tax you impose on a corporation just becomes a bill to their consumers. Do you really think if the gov't taxed comcast another $1B their bill wouldn't rise commensurately? Unless you set prices there is really no way to stop that.

Bullshiat. They rise prices as much as they think they can, and that is completely independant of their taxation level. They'll take anything as an excuse though.

Exactly, and they won't even need to list it in their advertised/quoted prices. The taxes are such are always separate line items, even if they end up making up 50% of what you pay each month

Cable is regulated as a utility. They get exclusive market access with no competition and a guaranteed profit margin. At least that is how it works in Indiana.

The cost of doing business isn't taxed, it's the 14B in profit that is taxed. By your logic, If employees didn't need to pay income tax, they would have lower expenses in payroll and could drop prices more. Vote Ron Paul!!!
