The announcer at the sailing really gives off the "hey, isn't this great to be out here completing and everybody is a winner!" vibe.

Decathlon also starts today! One of my favorite things to follow.

I don't know why but I have been rooting against May-Trainer and Jenning Walsh, i guess May-Trainer annoys me a bit. Their match against the Chinese was pretty thrilling and they earned their spot in the gold medal match. Still, i will be rooting for the other American team.

I'll bet anyone that the USA will win the Gold in Beach Volleyball today.

I am just a little conflicted on the Beach Volleyball game. I want to watch, but the whole USA vs. USA thing takes way so much of the drama. Now, watching the USA Team Two wax the Brazilians yesterday was exciting.

BMX racing starts in about 20 minutes, just the seeding round today but still should be good.

I was just watching the women's wrestling, and they mentioned something interesting about the repechage:

Once the finalists are determined for the Gold medal match, everyone who lost to them since Rd. 1 competes in a mini-tournament to determine the two Bronze medals. I think I like that better than having the QF and SF losers compete, as in Judo.

That happens, fortunately at this level of competition literally none of the competitors haven't had numerous pole breaks so they're good with it when it happens.

Id like to see them to modernize the Olympics by replacing womens pole vaulting with womens pole dancing.

Ok the BMX course is just awesome. Leave it to the Brits to have grass where everyone else just has dirt. It looks like someone put a BMX course through some nice lawn and it's awesome

I really dig the BMX uniforms. Instead of being loaded with sponsors, they have the country names and whatnot. The Dutch ones are pretty cool.

I bet the BMX girls are a blast to hang out with.

BMX the only Olympic cycling where they don't have bikes as light as can be. Also the Aussies are using an insane gear ratio. Their front gears are huge.

At the end of their run, the BMX women should be required to stop by skidding out sideways, take off their helmet and shake out their hair. In slow-mo.

so I'm guessing BMX is streaming only?
watching RUS-LTU basketball on Versus.. msnbc has judo and NBC prime has *clicks* something with a horse *sigh*
Bravo and CNBC seem to be in normal programming

Yeah, and don't worry it's just the seeding run today, so it's one person at a time. Actual races are tomorrow.

Yeah the English Irish and Welsh know from using grass where other gardeners would run away in fear and horror if told they had to have grass growing under a sport.. Not just Wimbledon either. Other places have a motorsport called speedway. The brits take the same machines, add a 2 speed gearbox, put 10 extra racers per heat and do grasstrack instead.

Strangely enough, and despite the uncanny turfbuilding talents demonstrated in the rest of Great Britain, the Scots are only able to grow something that you would call "grass" or "sporting turf" if you were trying to be charitable and polite. You can witness the poor Scottish attempts each time the British open returns to St Andrews

If a Conga line is needed in between sets to keep the crowd interested, that's a serious indication your "sport" sucks.

As a former high school vaulter who broke a pole or two in high school, I can tell you firsthand that it's a pretty helpless feeling.

/I miss my short-lived pole vaulting career

And a few of the BMX riders are using mountain bike pedals and wearing mountain biking shoes, so their shoes lock into the pedals, instead of the traditional pedals with regular shoes.

Yeah that's what every pole vaulter has told me. My fun was bad cross winds in the triple jump. People don't realize just how far sideways a nice stiff breeze can push you.

Wind never bothered me high-jumping but sometimes we'd compete in places where there was no runway to the pad - it was just grass (and usually slick, too).

It did. Of course, it never seemed to bother one guy from a rival high school; he'd clear six feet easily with a three-step jump.

I do. It's annoying as fark they get so much goddam airtime for their absurd perma-demonstration sport. If those two weren't in it I guarantee you beach volleyball air time would have been down by half or more. fark beach volleyball.
