Surool: ThunderPelvis: Surool: ThunderPelvis: So...yeah. F*ck you, Apple. Thanks for building my obsolete $500 brick, and I hope you enjoyed my last app purchase because you'll NEVER see another nickel from me.

You spent $500 on an iPhone? How do you even do that? If you can manage to pay double what any other iPhone user I know paid, you must have some special talent for stupidity.

...and I'm sure they'll fold up and die without your money.

It's funny that you don't think that you pay for your phone, in full, through your 24-month contract. At least I didn't have to pay anything up front for mine, unlike most of the American market. But I still paid the full-price for the phone through the contract.

I'm sure Apple will be just fine without my money, but there are a lot of Apple customers like me, and Apple makes more of us every day.

Where did I say I didn't think people pay for iPhones? You people make up interesting narratives in your heads.

You said I had a special talent for stupidity because I estimated what I ACTUALLY paid for the damn thing, instead of pretending that Apple can make 319 dollars of profit on 200 dollars of hardware by the power of magic.

I think one of us certainly has a special talent for stupidity.

ThunderPelvis: Herr Flick's Revenge: ThunderPelvis: Vaneshi: ThunderPelvis: The battery completely died and there's no f*cking way I'm going to spend 80 dollars getting it replaced.

So order a replacement and fit it yourself then. It's not that difficult.

It's just not worth the time and effort, and, frankly, I'd get a lot more satisfaction from smashing it.

Herr Flick's Revenge: So your going to spend $200-$600 instead?
Brilliant!

I'd probably respect your opinion about my intelligence a lot more if you knew the proper usage of "your." Then again, you apparently think that a Galaxy S3 and an iPhone 3GS are roughly equivalent...so...probably not.

Yep, usage mistake voids the whole message.
Or it could have been the the keyboard on my Samsung Galaxy S3 screwing up.

The message that an iPhone 3GS is equal to your Galaxy S3, and I'm stupid for not continuing to use obsolete, now-shiatty technology? That message?

Nope, the fact you sound stupid complaining about $80 dollars while talking about spending $200-$600.

OriginalGamer: Actually, those images showing the App Drawer are straight off the Samsung site, and their own packaging. Try again! :-)

tgambitg: You know what? None of us will ever change each others minds

Good answer. Think it'll deflect people from those previous wrong statements?

So it's OK to charge $80 to change a battery on a 3-year-old paperweight. Got it.

You forgot to explain why you can't change the battery yourself. You obviously like pulling phones apart and screwing with the inner workings in ways that would void any warranty, but you can't change your own iPhone battery? I think you're making all this sh*t up. The other option is you are a freaking moron.

Choose which you want to be remembered as, an idiot or a liar.

not when photoshop is removed from the equation.

And even if they do, exactly what alternative do or even can you propose to such an arrangement? Once you require that the mic and speaker be on opposite sides and that the device be oriented portrait rather than landscape, even one so artistically illiterate as myself could sketch out all the ways it could plausibly be done in about 3 minutes.

This. I don't own or use any of the products under discussion here, or care about them. But i am sick and tired of how absolutely bug-f**k insane we have gone on the subject of intellectual property in this country.
We need to go back to a fixed clock that starts ticking at the moment of patent or copyright, at the expiration of which it becomes public domain. No Ifs, ands, buts, or "your mouse is made of childhood magic" exceptions.
These endless courtroom battles between gangs of corporate thugs are a threat to free-market capitalism and to material progress.

No, it doesn't. Announced on Dec 15, 2006, and wasn't made available in the UK until the end of March, 2007. At best, it beat the iPhone to market by a few months.

Prada: First announced on December 12, 2006.
iPhone: First announced on January 9, 2007.

I realize that the year digit has increased by one, but that does not mean "predates the iPhone by a year".

Wiki (yeah, I know):

The LG KE850, also known as the LG Prada,[1] is a touchscreen mobile phone made by LG Electronics. It was first announced on December 12, 2006.[2] Images of the device appeared on websites such as Engadget Mobile on December 15, 2006.[3] An official press release showing an image of the device appeared on January 18, 2007

The first iPhone was unveiled by Steve Jobs, then CEO of Apple, on January 9, 2007,[1] and released on June 29, 2007.

Unfortunately, the wiki does not state when the Prada was actually available... but if they announced the thing in mid December 2006, that would only be 7 months ahead of the iPhone release. Kinda nit-picky, I know- but if Apple "unveiled" the iPhone in January 2007, that's like 3 weeks from LG's announcement for them to be able to copy it, design an OS, and have a working model to show off. Seems juuuuuuuust a bit improbable to me.

Debating the LG Prada phone only shows a lack of understanding of this trial. It's nearly as ignorant as the "round corners" debate.

This is not a trademark lawsuit. The claim is not that Samsung's design is so similar that it will confuse consumers, like if Pepsi started making red cans with a white swoosh on them with a cursive font.

This is a patent lawsuit. If Apple wants to claim that Samsung is copying their trademarked design or "trade dress" that would be a different lawsuit entirely. They are saying that they own rounded rectangles, apparently.

You might want to read up on the details of the lawsuit again. All the claims regarding rounded rectangles are trade dress infringement claims, so they are EXACTLY like your example of selling Pepsi in red cans with a white swoosh. The design patents cover other parts of the phone relating to how the hardware is designed and how the software functions to create the general look and feel of an iPhone. The only one of these that could be considered a bit silly is the patent for displaying a grid of icons, but since the the Patent Office issued it, they technically DO own the rights to putting icons in a grid until someone invalidates that patent in court.
