Boxing itself should be eliminated from the Olympics.

And yet the women's boxing seems to be going swimmingly, especially for Katie Taylor from Ireland.

Look Americans value their brains more then other people and don't like to get them beat out of them. Even wearing those head guard thingies boxing causes brain damage.

The revelation that football and hockey have an extremely high rate of head injuries and brain damage may be the beginning of the end for them. We are seeing sports stars, like Kurt Warner, who refuse to allow their kids to play football or hockey.

SkepticalBeliever: Olympic boxing has always been a joke, this is nothing new.

Joke or not, the list of all-time American boxers who competed as amateurs in the Olympics is impressive. The most sentimental moment in Olympics history involved a boxer (Ali) returning to the games -- 30 years after chucking his gold medal in the Mississippi River (or something like that.)

Supposedly the medal thing never happened, although it was in Ali's biography that he co-wrote with Richard Durham. And it was the Ohio River, near Louisville, not the Mississippi. He tossed it after getting talked down to by the mayor of Louisville then getting refused service at a restaurant. He won gold in 1960, btw, and received a replacement medal in 1996 at Atlanta.

The wretched state of pro boxing in the States trickled all the way through all aspects of US boxing.
