Absolutely.

2012-08-08 12:19:40 AM
No, the ocean is fairly gross.

2012-08-08 12:19:43 AM
Every 28 days or so.

2012-08-08 12:19:52 AM
Dogfish? Yes.

Whale Sharks? Yes.

Great Whites? No.

2012-08-08 12:20:53 AM
Sure, I spent two years diving with sharks. They're mostly afraid of you unless you are doing something incredibly stupid like spearfishing or dropping bait in the water.

Kevin Spacey unnerves me, so...no.

2012-08-08 12:21:59 AM
I did. In Tahiti. It was really farking boring.

2012-08-08 12:22:50 AM
I don't even swim. F*ck the water.

Fun fact:

When it comes to water activities and sports that have been linked with shark attacks, windsurfing is at the bottom of the list....IIRC, dead last. Obviously, spearfishing and surfing are at the top.

Okay....so what do you do that isn't boring?

As a kid my siblings and I would identify people at the beach (especially tourists) who were obviously terrified of the ocean.
Nothing like swimming along the wave line and grabbing them when the wave goes by from underwater.

2012-08-08 12:26:37 AM
I swam the Gold Coast of Australia while a helicopter was patrolling looking for great whites.

I have, several times. Never intentionally, though.

Yep, surfers look like seals or turtles to a shark. SCUBA divers are usually safe because the bubbles freak the sharks out. Sharks are the least of my worries when I'm diving.

A guy from my high school runs a spearfishing outfit on Maui....and I'm tempted to check it out when I make it down there....then again....SHARKS!

Where does water polo fall on that list? Synchronized swimming?

Sure. I'll be their best chum. :-D

Yes, I'm told I'm not particularly delicious.

I've been around sharks in the water, they've never given me any issues. Now barracudas, those things are scary.

2012-08-08 01:01:03 AM
Sure, I'd do that again.

Yes. I almost went into marine biology to study them.

Wow, green? Really?

Usually not a problem unless you're covered in shiny things.

Yeah, but you yell "Barracuda", everybody says "What?". You yell "Shark"...

Heh! You have a problem with that? :-D

2012-08-08 01:04:58 AM
The question is vague and unclear, really...

It doesn't say what type of shark (pretty danged important if you ask me), where (coastal swimming area designated for it, seaworld, open ocean...), if there's any protection...

Most sharks I wouldn't mind if it were open ocean. A majority of the ones like Great Whites and Bulls, no chance in hell without a cage. Tigers maybe without a cage. Oceanic White Tips, you can shove them right up your tailpipe if you ask me to swim with them; they're lethal SOBs...

I don't care what the studies say. Their teeth are no match for mine.

Yes, and I have.

Now, if you're talking intentionally swimming with Great Whites/Bull Sharks/Tiger Sharks without a cage, Hell farking no.

You must go through a ton of feminine products.

I'd love to. Preferably Great Whites, from the safety of a cage.

2012-08-08 01:10:33 AM
No, but that's only because I have a panic attack when my breath is slightly encumbered by the SCUBA mouthpiece.

/had to get out of a 5" training pool because of it

I have gone wading with them, fishing on Christmas Island and in Belize. Individual ones are not aggressive and run if you get close, I had to wade through some packs of 40 to 60 of them. That was so scary. An individual shark would spook at 15 to 20 feet, these would come within a foot or two then spook. Sharks I waded close to were 3 to 10 feet long and nearly all blacktip reef sharks. A couple were bulls 4 and 5 feet long.

Was SCUBA diving in about 50 feet of water off of Islamorada, FL. Saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye, was a six-foot mako cruising by about twenty feet from me. My air consumption went way up for the rest of that dive.
Swam with nurse sharks all the time, but only the women have to worry about those...

She is gone now.(unrelated) I have been out spearfishing and have been sized up by a Mako. I never swam so fast in my life to get away. I have also been stung by stingrays jellyfish and a sea lion tried to rape me once.

When you yell Barracuda it brings to mind the Wilson sisters back when they were hot.

I only hang with Street Sharks.

Yes, then shoot and eat them. We are top of the food chain, after all.

I try to dive once a week as I live in Florida (stop snickering!). There is hardly a dive when you don't see a shark. Mostly reef sharks and nurse sharks. Occasional bull sharks and hammerheads. Some have seen tiger sharks but I haven't.
