SilentStrider: Shut up and take my money.

This

And make the tv show about either Heroes for Hire or The Runaways

I fear they're going to run The Avengers into the ground fairly quickly with almost all of them having solo movies and now a TV show.

I still haven't seen the first one. Multiplexes are not my thing.

Maybe he'll do a blade TV show, except Blade will be a plucky white teenaged girl!

It's not necessarily an Avengers TV show, I'd actually be surprised if it was, it's a show "set in the Marvel universe."

What, you didn't decide to quit watching them while you were ahead when you saw that the Arc boss on the movies was gonna be Thanos and not someone competent and/or powerful?

I like Whedon and loved the Avengers, but I kinda want him to have a co-writer to rein his whedonisms in a bit.

It'll be on DVD within a month. It's definitely worth the $1.50 to rent.

/the local second run theater has been making a killing showing it for the last three weeks
//damn you Whedon, you already have more of my money than I like to think about

Glad to see him involved - but I don't care how much money he's made, you never give one person that much executive power. You're just asking for a George Lucas production.

Well, we're going to learn something about all of this. If a guy like Thanos, and ESPECIALLY if they introduce the Infinity Gauntlet will be too much for standard audiences. The stories everyone know is one thing, but if you fully introduce a guy that can mentally alternate all known things vs. a guy that is really strong/mechanical suit/is good with a bow they're going to a run a strong chance of alienating a MASSIVE portion of the audience.

My god could you imagine them throwing in the Thanos attempting to impress Death storyline?

They're making a Guardians of the Galaxy movie which is including Rocket Raccoon.

At this point I would take nothing for granted.

Hopefully they'll just go with Evil Superpowered Overlord trying to conquer the universe. If they want to include the Infinity Gauntlet it should only be in a "He needs just one more gem, and it's HERE ON EARTH" type story.

Indeed. The movie was great, but there was the occasional line of dialogue that sounded like something meant for a quirky teenage girl instead of a grizzled secret agent.

texdent: And make the tv show about either Heroes for Hire or The Runaways

I could see a Runaways show being Harry Potter level popular. It's got that mix of teen drama and fantastical elements that'd really hook the 12-18 demographic. I'm not sure you could make a Heroes for Hire show set in the modern day, it's just too 70's. If they do make it though, Sammo Hung was born to play Fat Cobra. I wouldn't be surprised to find they based the character on him, actually.

Good for Joss. Hopefully Disney/Marvel is giving him a dump truck full of money. And the new TV show won't be on Fox, so it might survive more than half a season.

I'm looking forward hearing more about what the TV show will be about, know it's set in the Marvel Universe but beyond that little is known. Firefly is still one of my favorite shows and it was cancelled way to soon, I've always been a fan of Whedon. His writing and character development is some of the best out there in my opinion and since it's on ABC and not Fox maybe it won't be cancelled after 12 episodes.

They only are interested because he made a successful movie. Otherwise, he'd be ignored by the likes of Disney. Who else but Fox (the entertainment group, not the cell phone hacking group) would have let him do as much as he did with Firefly?

Blah blah blah Fox sucks, Murdock is the new Hitlar blah blah, sure, but I don't see anyone else queuing up to produce a sci fi show like that.

/They still could cancel after 12 episodes.

I know that tis isn't what the show would be, but Ive said for a long time a Marvel show would be awesome, all you would need to do is just tell a story about different characters each week. Doesn't need any reoccurring characters or overarching plot, just do one-shot stories. Kinda like Twilight Zone. I doubt that American audiences today would go for something like that though, because they do like to get attached to one character and follow them around, and they don't like unpredictability. Case in point, 24 wasn't originally supposed to be "the Jack Bauer show" the plan was to do a different person each season, Heroes was supposed to be about different people each season, and Jack was supposed to die in the first episode of Lost. These ideas get shot down though because, TV execs dont believe (possibly rightly) that audiences will stick with it. Joss might be able to get away with it now though, but I doubt it.
A show based on the premise from Marvels would be cool too, but we'll probably get a show about two random SHIELD agents.

Yes. The more you have, the more powerful you become. Exponentially. They intertwine and individually, they're actually not all that godlike. Just super power like.

At this point in the Marvel continuity, they cannot be used all in unison, however for the movies, who knows.

Thanos is one of the greatest villains ever in the Marvel Universe and I'll tell you why.

He did the whole Infinity Gauntlet "Kill off half the universe" thing for pragmatic reasons and also for love. Became a god, but since he did it for love, when it didn't work, he just sort of said "fark it. Can't win em all. Back to my farm I guess."

I don't know why but as a child reading that book it had a profound effect on me. Reach as high as you can. Reach for god status, but if it fails, don't worry about it.

/csb? And I'll not have anyone disparaging Rocket Raccoon.

//As for a TV Show, Do we know if the studios have anything to do with it? Sony owns spiderman, for movies, but do they own him for TV? Could they do the Weapon X program? (Not that I want that, but I'm wondering how limited the universe is.)

Which is too bad. Because fans DO like it. Look at the ratings for Heroes that first year. Half the fun was finding out who was going to die next. The moment it became the cheerleader show, it started to suck. Game of Thrones makes bank on the same concept. But of course, here's what we're dealing with.

I don't know anything about him other than that in the new "Avengers Assemble" comic even Hawkeye was like "Dude, you're a talking raccoon" and he got all pissed at him. Thought that was funny.

I still say the ultimate troll in the history of film would be if Joss made Avengers 2, and featured the Avengers for the first 10 minutes before switching over to the Great Lakes Avengers. Sort of like the Executive Decision fake-out.

A GLA TV show could actually work pretty well. Since they don't really need to fight Earth-shattering forces of evil in their stories.

Theyy could also defray some costs of the show by getting VW involved and making the Quin-Jetta hilariously over the top product placement. If done right it could be as much fun as the live action Tick, only more successful I would hope.

I took that to mean that his relationship with Death would definitely be a factor in his future appearance(s). If it isn't they could have just closed with him spouting some cheesy villain cliche about breaking humanity's spirit or something.

Well, that puts the kibosh on any Firefly comeback, if it was ever truly on his plate. Same thing happened with Sam Raimi when he started getting the big director gigs.

Kudos on the success and all, but I'll be over here looking for the new creative talent instead of paying homage to high-paid turd-polishers.

Even without his success with The Avengers, the entire cast has been very successful with their own careers. I don't think it would be possible to work around the shooting schedules for Castle, Homeland, The LA Complex, and whatever work the rest of the cast has lined up.
