(TwinCities.com)   What do you do when your 19-year-old arthritic pooch finds the buoyancy of water so relaxing and therapeutic that cradling him in it will often lull him to sleep? You take him to the lake, of course. (w/ Damn this dusty lake pic)   (twincities.com) divider line 97

That is awesome.

Lake Superior is also pretty damn cold, even in the summer.

Just hope some freaked out cop doesn't shoot the poor l'il feller.

I awwwwwwed out loud, here in the living room, with no one to hear me (my own sweet pup, Fawkes, is snoring behind the couch--he is kicking up so much dust in here).

2012-08-08 01:10:16 AM
Awwwwww.... My little girl is 15 now and she can't really move as much as she used to, and every time I see her struggle to jump onto the couch that she used to bound onto it makes my heart twinge. This pic cut close to home ):

Adorable doggie!

What a lovely story and all this twit can talk about is how excited she was to get "liked" and "shared."

Good pic but fark that website. I can't even zoom in on the text or
picture to see it better on my phone without the site noticing and blurring everything. God forbid I not see your shiatty ads.

Nineteen years together. Wow.
It will be a very sad day for John when Schoep passes.

FTA

John lives his life in a kind way. He rescued this dog as a puppy, they have gone everywhere together ever since.

He's hot and kind to animals? Oh yeah.

/nice and sad pic

It is scientific fact that lakes are the dustiest regions on the planet. Especially so when arthritic dogs are lounging.

Amazing pic. Just a great pic.

Damn. Came close to forming a tear, and that never happens for me.
Dealing with the limited lifespan of pets never gets easier no matter how many times you go through it.

I think it's safe to say Schoep has had (and will continue to have) a great life.
Good man, this John Unger.

Reminds me a lot of myself and my own dog. So yeah, it tugs the heart strings.

On a side note in Lake Superior is usually frigid up through June and July but gets to a balmy witch's tit temperature around August. For a furry one the water is excellent to get out of August heat.

Well, since this is Fark, I expected the guy took his dog to the lake where it fell peacefully asleep and then drowned it.

How nice that it wasn't that.

I second all of that. It's 6:00A and I can't think of a better way to start my day than having seen this. Thanks Fark. Thanks John. Thanks Schoep.

Awwww...that's one of the sweetest pics i've seen. Nice find subby, +100 internets for you.

I choose to believe that dog is named after the Mark Harmon character in Summer School.

I hear that's still legal in some states.

This is the best picture I've seen in a long while. It's a rare thing, to catch an honest expression of love in a photograph. But you can feel it in pictures like this.

It's foolish to make judgement about a person from a photograph... but any person capable of that much love and empathy for a dog is probably a pretty decent human being.

Huh, never thought of throwing my arthritic dog in the water while she was still alive. Despite the pain, she never stopped loving to run. Friends couldn't decide whether to cringe or smile when they saw how happy she was as she performed her stiff gallop. Turning her into a junky for joint pain medicine helped take the edge off. Old age is the perfect time to nurture your addictions.

19 years old for a dog is pretty impressive.

What a terrible thing. Put that poor dog out of its misery. When my grandmother's arthritis became so so bad she was in constant pain, we weren't willing to make the tough call. Eventually though, her hands were so misshapen she could no longer write us checks on our birthdays. We smothered her with a pillow. It was the compassionate thing to do.

There's wet drops coming from my eyes as I lay here reading this. Thank you subby. Sad that the photog was more interested in her facebook status than the beauty of the photo.

I saw that picture all over Facebook, and it's one of the only ones that moved me. It's nice to see something peaceful and loving these days.

You are such a bad person and I feel bad for laughing, sort of.

And THIS is why we can't have nice things.

Not this year. Coastal areas are downright bath water warm in places.

My semi-elderly beagle has pretty significant (very significant to her) arthritis in her right front....she'll hobble around unless there is a bunny to chase. Then all bets are off...the howling begins and all 4 are on the ground. She'll pay for it later, but she looks so content after the chase.....and she always dreams later that night...

/hate that I can't bring her to work with me
//she's so quiet...she wouldn't bother anyone!

I believe you are mistaken, that is not a mullet. It looks like a 3 maybe 4 hand ponytail.

If that doesn't do it for you try Baxter the therapy dog. If that doesn't work you are dead or... I'll just leave that there.
