Looks like Hal Holbrooke did a good job on his research.

Aside from the Twain home movies, Edison was a douche-bag patent thief.

If Nikola Tesla had filmed it, it would have been in color. And 3D.

Actually seeing he was in his 70's, I'd think old age did it.

Tesla and Twain were friends. I was curious at why Twain would ever collaborate with Edison

It's great to see this but I have never understood why, if it was filmed by Edison, there wasn't also an audio recording made of America's favorite author?

There has to be one out there somewhere.

I desperately want to see the Val Kilmer one-man Twain show, if it's even half as campy as his Jim Morrison or Island of Dr. Moreau assistant, I want to see it every day.

Thomas Edison was a piece of shiat, an invention thief, an animal abuser and a liar.

He was very good at self promotion. That is why you know who he is.

While many of those accusations are fairly justified, you can't claim that self promotion was solely responsible for his fame and success. The man was a genius who revolutionized technology across the world. Also, its been like a 100 years since his heyday, so chill out brah.

In all fairness, you are probably more correct then not, but his actions to get there were reprehensible, thus I feel it's important to set the historical record straighter than it currently is. Edison worship needs to end. He was no one to look to as a role model.

Halley's Comet book-ended his life.

Halley's Comet passed on November 10th 1835 and Twain was born November 30th 1835. Twain vowed he would "go out"with the passing of the comet, as it passes in 75 year cycles. Halley's comet passed again April 20th 1910, Twain passed April 21st 1910.

Ain't that the truth. Poor Tesla .. a guy like that dying lonely and alone in a hotel room. No kids, no credit.

With a cynical shiat-eating smirk does Twain nod from the grave, for he, my friends, was the real attention whore.

Agreed. Every time Edison is mentioned, these jokers come out. I would love to know where all the scholarship is behind these wild claims.

The example of the elephant electrocution is a good one. That elephant had killed three people and was going to be killed anyway.

New York honours electrocuted elephant Reports of the electrocution said Clad in copper-lined sandals and covered in electrodes, Topsy was given a huge electric shock. "There had been no sound and hardly a conscious movement of the body," reported the paper.

MaudlinMutantMollusk: Did you ever notice that everyone in those old films walks like Charlie Chaplin?

Just looks like that since the footage was filmed at a lower frame rate such as 18 fps but is often played back at the modern standard of 24 fps. It's why everything looks faster than it really was when filmed. With a little effort, you can make old films look right but most people don't take the time.

He was a lot of things, including that, but he wasn't rotten to the core. He did some good things, even if he didn't do everything he's famous for. (Such as inventing the lightbulb. Or even 'perfecting' it, really.) But yes, he was also a shiatbag at times. For example, when he stole Méliès' 'A Trip to the Moon' and by that basically bankrupting the original director.

It's like you guys are Edison's Birthers. You have almost nothing to go on but keep repeating it ad nauseam. Why? I would just like to know why? Who is it that you feel you are protecting? And how is it that you are online 24/7 to chime in within minutes of any post mentioning Edison? Did he steal a patent from your great grandfather? What is it that has you Edison trolls so worked up?

Edison certainly started out inventing things on his own. You can't argue with that. The first $10,000 he got for his quadriplex telegraph was certainly for his own work. He ended up in control of a big company that had many people working on many inventions and undoubtedly he profited from a lot of people's work.

Sure, he may have electrocuted a lot of animals to prove a point about the dangers of alternating current, but there are certainly bigger crimes in the 20th century. What do you care?

The fact that Edison pushed DC shows what an idiot he was.

The fact he killed lots of animals to show the evils of AC PROVES what an asshole he was.

Sure! Worse stuff happens. If you saw the next door kid electrocuting the neighbor's dog, it'd probably register on your 'bad things to do' list.

Farking sociopath.

But herpderp he's all bootstrappy as shiat and sure was a creator. Of other people's ideas.

Why don't you go fellate him in his tomb in Jersey. It'll probably be the first time he got farked over.
