yeah yeah, J.J. Abrams. STFU. I'll still watch it and YOU CAN'T STOP ME!

Did I miss something in the that trailer? Was Ron Moore involved in the show? Was James Callis or Jon Collicos in there?

I liked Baltar.

that looks interesting but what the hell does that have to do with Baltar?

Yeah, an entire show based around "well, one day the laws of physics just stopped" would cause me a serious amount of mental distress to watch, I think I'll skip it.

Come on, man... It's not like he wasn't shagging half the fleet... Okay, well, it's not like he was conspiring with the Cylons for awhile... Ummm...

Frak it. Throw him out the godsdamned airlock.

/still think it's one of the best sci-fi shows in the last decade.

I was SO pissed when Baltar wakes up on the Cylon ship, Tricia Helfer wakes up next to him AND THEN FARKING LUCY LAWLESS ALSO wakes up next to him. What did all these women see in this twatwaffle?

Has S. M. Stirling filed a lawsuit against the show yet?

While he was a lying sack of shiat, he was one of the most brilliant people in all the colonies. Some chicks dig smart dudes.

Well, no power means no hot lady toasters...so yes, there would be no Baltar on this show.
/That said I'll watch it to see what Jon Favreau does with it.

2012-08-07 03:07:07 PM
it's JJ Abrams, its some sort of Electromagnatism hoobajube that makes the power go away, but we have Kripke so there are daddy issues so I am sure every episode will end with a discussion about our feelings.

Well, there was an episode of DS9 where they went to a planet where none of their gizmos worked.

Seems like just enough change (i.e., complex chemical reactions like gunpowder firing still occur) to seem like a different version of the calamity that befell the Emberverse.

Cancelled. SYFY decided that it would get in the way of professional wrestling and horrible art school-quality movies.

Kinda jumped the shark in season 3, but there were still amazing moments after that.

He was one of the most interesting characters on the show though. You farkING HATED HIM throughout the entire series, but every once and awhile, it would like he was going to finally do the right thing or otherwise validate his existence, but then he just goes on being Balter and you're like "fark, I fell for it again!"

The electricity-free future will be populated by young hotties sporting trendy well-manicured hairdos and stylish clothing, but we should care about their storyline because they are family with each other.

Another great sci-fi/fantasy premise overrun and ruined by soap-opera drama.

Not to mention...last I checked, nerve signals are sent by means of electrical impulses. Then again, that would really be the learn of the worries if the electromagnetic force just disappeared.

/no ionic molecules, bye-bye table salt
//actually, no light at all since photons = constructive/destructive regeneration of opposing electric and magnetic fields

Do the most modern planes have completely manual flight systems that could be used should all electricity suddenly stop working?

Yeah, so many different issues in just the trailer, I think I'll pass.

2012-08-07 04:17:26 PM
No, they couldn't just go with "nuclear weapons setting of EMPs" or even better yet "Massive Solar Storm"....no.

They had to go with "Mysterious happening causes electricity to never work on earth again"

Skipping this horseshait.

2012-08-07 04:19:24 PM
The main issue is that it's a JJ Abrams piece, which means he has an idea where the trailer and second episode go, and has no idea how to realize any of his 10th grade thought experiment beyond that.

Some have triple (or more) redundant systems using hydrolics (sp?) just in case. Even still, the aircraft isn't going to spin out of the sky. It may dive and roll, but it isn't going to flatspin out of the sky.

Whoever ok'd THAT never played with those styrofoam gliders as a kid (toss it in the air and it loops back around to you.

Something still has to control those hydraulics, though. I'm no expert by any means, but I would think that if all electricity ceases to function, those planes are screwed - it's not like older planes where there is a literal mechanism of some sort connecting the yoke/stick to the flaps/rudder. On the newer planes hydraulics are there in case primary electric goes out, but still require electric signals to translate from the fly-by-wire controls to the emergency controls.

And while the plane wouldn't "spin" out of control, it would tumble - at some point it's going to hit stall speed, and unless something caused it to go nose-down, it's going to go into a flat spin of some sort.

I despised 'dies the fire'. not only did Stirling ONCE AGAIN play gotdamn favorites with his pet characters the entire premise was pretty stupid. aliens caused a cross rip in time and now magic works and guns don't. piss...off....

and yeah, ya know what? I should write a short story that kicks the gotdamn draka in their gotdamn inbred nuts! yeah! but i'm not bitter...oh not...NOT BITTTER at all....

um, where was I?

The force of air over the wings and cockpit generally pushes the nose down on an aircraft.

I am not afraid to admit that I, as a 26 year old man at the time of the episode airing, was on my feet yelling at the TV when those first missiles came into frame and the music started.

It was a glorious moment of television, and I'm happy to have experienced it.

Started watching BSG a month or two ago...stopped watching after season one because of Baltar... just hated the character so much I could not enjoy the show. Glanced ahead on the wiki to see if he was spaced in season two... saw he wasn't and took it off my netflix queue.

That, and the show changing from hard sci-fi to a pseudo-religious fantasy thing with prophesies and visions... pretty much lost all interest.

The premise of this show is hurting my brain... PLEASE, SOMEONE, MAKE IT STOP!!

/Crossbows, flintlocks and swords... Really?!
/I have it on good authority that there is enough 7.62X54R buried to last us through at least another century or two.

Noooo no no no no no. Ya farked me once, Abrams, with LOST. Never again. I'll never trust you to deliver on mysteries in a serial format again. That ending was a hot steaming mess, and the last ten minutes was like some farking LIFETIME movie saccharine shiat.

That show was simultaneously awesome and terrible. The good episodes were frakking FANTASTIC, the bad ones, well... they were well produced. The third season has an incredible story arc around "New Caprica". That arc alone made the whole damn series completely worth the time, even if Ron Moore can't finish a story to save his life.

2012-08-07 06:39:37 PM
Aliens, damping field, etc. Has to be outside interference, perhaps an experiment or.... a mystical island of some sort. Not too many possibilities.

I'll give it a chance. You have 4 weeks, Abrams.
