SquiggsIN: whitey_d: The biggest problem I have with conspiracies like this is you would need everyone to keep their mouth's shut before and after. And given human nature that's just not happening.

The threat of you and your entire family disappearing is frequently enough to keep people silent.

"Frequently" is not enough. If they "frequently" kept people silent, the conspiracy would have been exposed by infrequent leaks.

You'd need to keep everyone uniformly silent to keep the word from getting out, in a conspiracy that spans the government, military, and news media. And they don't just mean a few higher-ups in the military: the theory is that the military enacted a nationwide "stand-down" the day of the attacks---meaning that servicemen and women all over the country were given orders, with nobody coming forward to report having received these orders.

Furthermore, the conspiracy is supposedly obvious to bloggy laypeople because blah blah physics blah blah freefall speed blah blah cell phones on planes blah blah fuel fires---and therefore it must also be obvious to scientists and engineers and university faculty all over the world. The conspiracy is therefore able to silence all of these people too, to a man. You're now talking about threats made to millions of people, in pretty much every country, and it has always worked.

(This has worked for fascists governments for thousands of years....)

No, it has not. No fascist government has ever launched an operation like this, and then perfectly covered it up through intimidation.

urban.derelict: whitey_d: Wow for goofs I clicked on the prison planet link and the comments are just gold:

Alex Jones is a nutter who makes money obfuscating issues, selling warez on 4 different duplicate 'news' sites containing phony information. He is not to be trusted because I -- personally -- saw one of his stories years -- about a decade -- ago, "Tim McVeigh received explosives training after he left the military" ... with video... of a guy who looked NOTHING like Tim McVeigh. (But anyone who didn't know what McVeigh looked like -- would have no reason to dismiss the story.)

9/11 was a false flag, and there's no way I could include all the info here so I'll just share this link:

Just remember this is the same gov that produced MK Ultra. The US gov has no qualms killing its own citizens if it helps them achieve their intended goal. Most people think "our own government would never do something like that," ... wrong. ("If you ever need a guinea pig, let me know; my grandfather was in the Tuskeegee experiments...")

Obama's a puppet. He has a wife and two daughters I'm sure he loves more than anything... ensuring he will... do what he's told.

Two-party system is a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dichotomy to fool citizens into thinking they have freedom... to choose between two -- and only two -- political parties.

.what's the federal deficit up to today? That's how much the US owes a private bank which prints money below face value, loans it to the US gov to use -- at interest

And of course, if you count them...there are 13!! The ceremony itself in large parts was a narrative on the development of modern human history [...] all overseen by the 13 All-Seeing Eyes, representing the 13 ruling bloodliness of the Illuminati. In other words, they were telling us that they have been the controlling force behind the development of our history."

Bonus: there are 14 towers.

Obviously one of them is a fake to throw the sheeple off the scent.

To be fair... If a government ever *had* pulled this off, we wouldn't know about it.

Dear Patrick Stewart: Why are you wearing so much makeup? I mean, even by the standards of a '70's BBC archival videotape. Sheesh.

The main thing that keeps conspiracy theories going is the fact that any proof of such a conspiracy NOT existing is seen as more evidence that it does in fact exist. We mock it around here as "My god, they got to him too!" but in fact these conspiracy freaks see such proof as being evidence of an ever greater coverup. So when engineers and structural architects came forward to show the 9/11 collapses were perfectly explicable as what should have happened...out came a book called "Debunking the 9/11 Debunkers." For these folks, the conspiracy HAS TO BE TRUE, and nothing can undermine that faith. Kind of like any religion, really. It's not so much they WANT to believe, they HAVE TO believe, because if they didn't, they'd have nothing.

I keep hoping that when the Olympics end without any incidents, I'll see 4chan's /x forum back to posting creepy stories and Japanese horror comics...and then I wake up.

Sorry, but that's a bunch of hooey. I'm not saying 9/11 truthers are undoubtedly right, but I'm not saying they're undoubtedly wrong either. I'm saying I don't know. The official story of 9/11 is also a "conspiracy theory" about a bunch of guys armed only with boxcutters, incredible flying skills and magical passports that survive crashes and flutter to the ground intact. Questioning authority and official narratives is the sign of an open mind, not a closed one. An open mind is comfortable with admitting that the world is awash in far fewer "facts" than "trusted" media sources would have you believe.

JackieRabbit: HawgWild: Dan Brown doesn't have an original thought in his body ...

Agreed. And he sucks as a writer, even a writer of pulp fiction. I arrived a work one morning to find a copy of The Da Vinci Code on my desk. Our CEO had read the book and thought it fantastic. For some reason, he felt compelled to buy everyone their own copy. I threw it into a book case and summarily forgot it. A few years later, I was perusing for a light read and took it down. I figured I was in for a bad read, when he had Frenchmen using American idioms and cliches. It went down hill from that. I finished the book, but then asked myself why I wasted my time.

I felt bad because I finished 60 pages before I got sick of it.

hippyneil: MARK MY WORDS: Prince William will be the GREAT MONARCH. HE IS NOT THE ANTICHRIST. He will appear in the Olympic Stadium within AUGUST 12th, 2012, surely on SUNDAY 12th, in a "miraculous way" (i.e., from a spaceship).

That's going to be the coolest thing ever. I can't wait!

I bet Danny Boyle is really pissed off that somebody has let the cat out of the bag about the closing ceremony.

Yeah, you really could have used that 30 minutes doing something better ;-)

And to think, he coaches other people to be writers...

Aaaannnd, you just proved my entire thesis. Everything you state can and has been explained, and yet you CANNOT accept it because it would challenge your narrative. None of the passports were recovered, except by wingnut websites in the days after the attack, and they've since been debunked. But that just means "OMG, they got to THEM TOO?!??!?"

I guess you find it part of the conspiracy, and equally inexplicable except by dark forces at work, to know that the bodies of the Columbia astronauts were recovered after its fiery reentry? I suppose they DIDN'T REALLY CRASH, based on your concept of how physics works?

Just because something can be explained, does not mean you have found the proper explanation. Many scientific ideas have been explained and later found out to be incorrect. And thanks for the Red Herring about bringing up the Columbia Crash, which I have absolutely no doubts about, but you just assume I do because my skepticism must know no bounds in your imagination of what I think.

I'm not a big 9/11 buff, but I'll give you one where I think the evidence does point toward a conspiracy - JFK. I'll argue that with you all day long, if you want...have at it.

You were probably also considered stupid and crazy to think that something like Penn State's incidence could happen, or even the Catholic church's for that matter. Albeit it sounds entirely farking nutty and way too stupid to be true (any of the "conspiracy" theories, really), the more you look into them the more you can at least understand that the probability is there. It's not an impossibility, just less logical and more improbable than all others. There's a reason it's called "conspiracy," and it's because it's supposed to be their secret. Why not make it as complicated as farking possible? Yeah I could just work more hours, but I'll just do whatever illegal act, launder my money, make millions of shell companies to disrupt the money trail, and no one will be the wiser.

Don't just listen to people talk about the other side of the fence, go check it out for yourself. You can always come back.

In those cover-ups, people came forward to expose the cover-up. Just like every other cover-up.

Meanwhile, truthers believe in a cover-up spanning the entire planet in perfect secrecy without a single person ever raising a peep.

People don't consider truthers stupid because they believe in cover-ups or conspiracies, which can happen; they consider truthers stupid because they believe in ridiculous cover-ups and ridiculous conspiracies, that violate the laws of physics and make no logistical sense.
