Eh, it had a lot to live up to following thriller. The title track and "Man In The Mirror" are still pretty good songs.

How can anyone not like Bad? It features a song with a video where Michael Jackson makes Wesley Snipes his biatch. Sheer awesomeness.

Don't forget Moonwalker, the movie and video game spawned by this album.

All I remember about the movie, honestly, is that it had Joe Pesci and MJ saved the day by becoming a Transformer.

No...seriously...

I remember renting that movie when it went to video. I did not enjoy it until Speed Demon, and then it sucked and made no sense, save for the Smooth Criminal song. After that I just waited for it to end. It sucked so much.

6/10. If you were never a Jackson fan, that makes sense. If you were, then there are 6 songs on that album alone that are Jackson mainstays.

The Moonwalker video game is pure awesomesause, straight or ironic. I was just demoing it for the missus - here's the lowdown: you're MJ and you go through various levels (a night club filled with old timey gangsters, pimps and whores, a downtown filled with modern street thugs, masked gunmen and dogs and a cemetery filled with zombies. Never made it past the third level) and you're looking for missing children - they're all the same kid, a blonde girl with a teddy bear. Each time you find one she goes "MICHAEL!!" You shoot magic out of your foot and throw your hat and when you've found all the kids, your monkey Bubbles jumps onto your shoulder and points you to Joe Pesci who brings out the bosses of each level, who you defeat by making them breakdance. (The gangsters do that gravity defying dance where they lean over really low and the dogs get on their hind legs and the zombies to the Thriller jerky dead dance).

It's insanely fun and awesome.

I clicked on the link thinking "fark yeah, Thriller!"

Then, I actually did more than skim the headline, and saw it was about Bad.

That's like sitting down to watch the Three Stooges, and you get one with Joe as the third Stooge.

Also Leave Me Alone could be his best video and considering the quality of his videos, that says something.

That video cemented me as a fan - I realized that he was in on the joke, and it became ok.

There was something about him turning into a sports car, too. And the Speed Demon claymation, I remember that. Wasn't he a rabbit? Like, the whole thing was "properties Michael Jackson wishes he was a part of: Bugs Bunny and Transformers"

speaking of 'in on the joke'... i really wish the 'Liberian Girl' video had been worthy of the topic of the song :( as it was, it was a waste of time. yeah, great, bunch of random cameos of people who feel self-important because they're in a MJ video. or the joke was that they were in on the joke, too.

I'd rather it had been like the 'Remember the Time' video... if you're going to put that many stars in a video, do it right. 'Remember the Time' did it right. save that other mess for something else, not Liberian Girl.

No, he did not.

Lot of evil people out there, willing to use little kids to get what they want. Michael was strange, but he wasn't a pedophile.

I consider myself very clearheaded and I think the same thing.

MJ was a weirdo but he was no pedo.

They certainly had enough turns at bat and a long enough history with this rumor to prove it. But after all these years and now after he's dead and there'd be a mint to be made on some expose book, not one shred of proof has turned up.

Michael Jackson exhibited an extreme case of arrested development. He couldn't cope with adult life, that's why he felt more comfortable with kids. That doesn't make him a pedophile.

It's sad that he'll never be able to get that stain off his name because I believe he truly was one of the best entertainers of all time.

Singers are musicians. Arguably, so are dancers.

Dude was sick in the studio with lead and backup vocals. On stage, just as good.

No.

Quincy produced, arranged, co-wrote. Michael at least co-wrote, and had a hand in arrangements and production as well.

I came here to say this.

Used to LOVE that video as a little kid cuz of the carnival aspect and the dog people. I still enjoy it.

I dunno what the deal is with people hating bad but liking thriller. It's different, and really nothing lives up to thriller, but it still has some great music on it. Man in the mirror, smooth criminal, the way you make me feel.
Streetwalker is a great song, IMO, and should have been featured on the original album. Instead they used Another Part of Me, which is decent, but I don't like it as much. It's not as catchy. Streetwalker sounds a little more modern, and not as "80s", so maybe they thought audiences wouldn't take to it as easily.

Third_Uncle_Eno: did he write any of his music / play any instruments? or just lyrics?

Michael was able to play instruments. He had a wide range of musical talents (there's even some sound bites of him beat boxing). Not sure if he played instruments on any of his albums though, since he would have been very busy doing other stuff, and would have left it up to more competent people since he was a perfectionist.

As far as writing, he had a huge part in the writing of a lot of his songs, and he was always very involved in the production. I know for a fact he wrote "wanna be startin somethin", among other hits, and co produced with quincy jones. I know from interviews with him and others, including quincy jones, that he was pretty much thinking of music and lyrics in his head all the time. He was able to create a song, all parts, from top to bottom without help.
Even those he didn't write, he obviously added his own sound unique vocals, so regardless of whether he wrote all of them, they would NOT be the same songs with someone else.

Thresher: Yeah, but without it we wouldn't have had:

That album was actually titled "Even Worse." "Fat" was just a single, and not even the best song on that record.

This song is just six words long, Good old days among the gems

I thought Dangerous was a solid album overall. "Give In To Me" should've been released as a single, IMO.
