The one thing you must NEVER do... is hit your grandma with a shovel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIwr261Sfsw

NEVER HIT YOUR GRANDMA WITH A SHOVEL
(Felix Hanemann)

Spike Jones & his City Slickers - 1942
(Vocal: The Boys in the Back Room)

Oooh! Never hit your Grandma with a shovel
It makes a bad impression on her mind
(On her mind)
In a better way impart
All the love things in your heart
For it's possible she may retort in kind
(Retort in kind)
Remember Granny's known you since a baby
And even though in fun, could prove a shock
(Prove a shock)
So respect her aged head,
Stay the shovel and instead
Paste your dear old, sweet old Grandma
With a rock.

A Grandma, with her grandchild,
Sat by the kitchen door
Of a quaint old fashioned house built long ago
The little lass grew restless
As on the evening wore
For she felt the time was fleeting very slow
"I must do something" cried the girl,
And seized the nearby spade
But a passing stranger blocked her swing
Whilst these wise words he said

Oh! Never hit your Grandma with a shovel
It makes a bad impression on her mind
In a better way impart
All the love things in your heart
For it's possible she may retort in kind
Remember Granny's known you since a baby
And even though in fun, could prove a shock
(Prove a shock)
So respect her aged head,
Stay the shovel and instead
Paste your dear old, sweet old Grandma
With a rock.
(A great big rock)

Is it me or is crazy being ramped up considerably this year? Not just random shootings where someone was mugging someone for money but stuff like this. A beat down for no real reason. Early this year you had the bath salt craze where everyone ended up running around like super zombies. Then you have people cosplaying and shooting up places. Then you have the attack on the Sikhs over the weekend for no tell tale purpose.

It's chaotic violence. Not violence with a purpose, like money, goods or revolution, just violence.

Weird.

LarryDan43: Shoot him dead. Stand your ground.

You know, I actually don't have a problem with the concept of self-defense - even up to possibly fatally wounding an intruder in one's own home.

But when an asshat says "Shoot him dead. Stand your ground" I tend to think that there are any number of passive-aggressive psychopaths in this country who probably stay up until the wee hours of the morning with a loaded weapon just farking praying that someone comes through their door so they can finally, finally, finally know the feeling of killing someone and GETTING AWAY WITH IT because they are too chicken shiat to actually commit a murder.

But, you know, that's just me.

Especially if you're a psychopath. Perhaps they could lock him up this time. You know, if it isn't too much trouble.

America is a lot less violent today than for most of the past century. School violence is way down, murders are way down, so are nearly all forms of violent crime.

Yes, it appears worse, but only because didn't used to know about this stuff. The truth is that it was always happening. One reason is because the internet gives us access to small town news that was previously unavailable. Another factor is that small localities and their newspapers used to downplay or coverup nasty crimes in order to protect the reputation of the area. That's a lot harder to do that these days.

Then there's the fact that that US newspapers and TV news stations mostly use the rule: "if it bleeds, it leads". This results in a a well attended family concert at the park getting page 16, while the local wacko gets the front page every time.

Mental health budgets that were already threadbare have been slashed to the bone. At the same time, otherwise normal people are angry and hungry enough that they'll lash out at anything. It's human nature when things start to crumble to go savage; once you've experienced the high of it, you can enjoy and get addicted to senseless violence in a rational way, too.

As someone posted above, a taste of the ol' ultra-violence ala A Clockwork Orange begets a craving for more.

It was certainly down as of 2010, the latest crime statistics available, but you have to admit that the crazy seems to be winning this year. We'll have to wait and see if the media is just much better at finding the crazy than last year or not.

Don't worry. Hardly anyone is going to see it because you can have one of the mods address the issue before it goes green. That's one of the advantages that we have over the liters. Oh.....wait.
