You have a substantially weaker defense against the misogyny attack when the point of the characters starts to become looking at their bouncy boobies and you're working in an industry that seems to be hellbent on doing this with nearly every female character in everything it produces.

The video game industry thinks women are nothing but T&A because they've been successful selling to male video game players who believe that women are nothing but T&A. The fact that so many video gamers are uncouth anthropological throwbacks, however, should hardly be news to anybody and it's hardly limited to their views on women and I'm getting tired of people throwing a hissy fit every single time a character is rendered with large breasts.

It sells. It's not going away because some people just don't have very developed intellects or social graces. Get the hell over it. It's not like the majority of the people who'd pay extra to add swimsuit models to a fighting game are going to be stumbling out of the basement long enough for them to (poorly) interact with you in public anyway.

It used to be one of the first jigglefest games, but now there are so many more options out there (YAY INTERNET). Really to remain relevant they'd have ramp things up and pair up with the Sexy Beach people, otherwise internet porn is faster and easier.

Can't wait for DOA's return to the fighting genre. DOA is the best fighting game there is, in my opinion. No crazy unbreakable combo's that take all your life in one hit, no projectile attacks, a simple, yet in-depth control scheme, no stupid controller/button combination to do your special moves, and best of all, if you choose random for your character and stage, both change from fight to fight, eliminating the need of constantly going back through the character and stage selection screens for every single versus match.

That's especially true when something that crosses the line is marketed directly and almost exclusively to the very kids and adolescents it claims to be unsuited for, and uses that same unsuitability as a primary point in its marketing.

This game series has been around since the beginning of the PS2/Sega Saturn era and each one since 3 has sold over a million copies.

I am not knocking you, I am suggesting that your complete ignorance of the series existance is the exception, not the norm.

Something about this game just seems off to me. The faces, mainly. Also, I've never liked how the focus has always been on the girls and their scantly clad outfits, and not on the fighting system changes/etc.

Mechanically, it's essentially Tekken. So, yes, it's a real fighting game, just one from a line boring enough that it requires costumes and attempts at sexyness (albeit in a really creepy way, like the dating sim type spinoff) to make it less boring.

Well, yeah. The problem is when the video game industry is blind to the self-fulfilling prophecy they've created: "Only men buy video games, so we'll make video games that are only appealing to men, and hey look, only men buy video games!"
Make video games that you think only appeal to men, if you want. But don't try to pretend that you're only following the market, rather than helping create it.

Plus, it's shortsighted. Almost half of the gamers out there are female- except, they're not "true gamers" or some such, so we can still dismiss that market, right? Wrong... They also account for the majority of dollars spent on games.

It's probably illegal to use the flag like that so they turn it around so it's not a real American flag. I think they do similar things in the UK where for example, you can't burn a countries actual flag, but you can burn effigies of a countries flag, like this one.

I would be stunned if that that were illegal in the US. It is officially frowned upon to turn a flag into clothing or display it improperly, but I don't think there is any law you could be prosecuted under for doing so.

However, I love that explanation for its lulziness, and will have to remember it as a rationalization for silly design decisions.

But DoA doesn't do that. The female characters in the have some of the deepest, most complex fighting styles(Helena) and are some of the most powerful (Christie) in the game. Is there plentiful fan-service in DoA? Certainly, but the argument that it trades in tropes of female weakness, uselessness, and vapidity is off-base. Even the storylines for the game are primarily ones of women overcoming powerful male foes to accomplish their objectives: Kasumi destroying DoACorp's clone project; Helena wresting control of her mother's company back from her deranged, evil father while dodging assassination attempts; Tina proving she's a better wrestler than her father; Ayame settling accounts with her demon-possessed father by putting him down, and Leifang proving to Jann Lee that she's his equal by kicking his ass in a fighting tournament. The obsession with fathers and romantic partners is admittedly not terribly progressive, but neither is it misogynistic. The DoA beach volleyball game may be a thin excuse for a dress-up ooglefest, but DoA the fighting game has more to it than just women in skimpy outfits.
