It is well past time to end personal civil immunity to policemen performing their duties. If the guy with the sword was really defending himself then arresting him was a terrible decision and the officer should pay for hit from his own pocket.

Wow I'm second. Was there a big party last night somewhere or is there a server offline somewhere?

In other news, I bet from now on the kids parents are going to have to ask for the ball back.

I remember my first threat of death by sword. I was in college in student housing. I only had about four or five swords back then. Some punk walked into my apartment, drunk, thinking it was his place and refused to leave. I grabbed a sword, let him feel the sharp blade and cold metal, then told him if he didn't leave soon he'd feel the blade slice him open. He said he'd call the cops, I said it was Texas and he was trespassing.

Oops, make that 5th place.

I knew it was too good to last.

I had a roommate (paranoid schizophrenic) who used to go around the neighborhood carrying a sword and swinging it at things.

When someone took it away from him, he actually had the police come and get it and return it.

Schizos with swords is apparently totally legal.

The report says that the suspects are both 14, neighbors, and live on the 6400 block of Betty's lane. The police aren't permitted to identity 14 year old suspects. You have failed, police.

Meh. Arresting somebody and then releasing them is considered routine, with no damage.

I recommend this stoic blade for tennis-ball retrievals.
It has good balance and can lop the head off the most thick-necked of neighbours.

Yeah, that's the ticket. It was the guy with the ball that was threatening. And everyone knows you don't bring a ball to a sword fight. Good thing he had that sword.

Well, if his arrest warrant was written by George RR Martin, it will be 3,200 pages long and will not actually come to a conclusion about what the charges are.

No idea...

2012-08-07 02:00:35 PM
I have had a few very persistent debt collectors banging on my door to collect a debt from a person I know for a fact has not lived here for 3 years. The last time it happened I came to the door with a drawn Damascus (well, what passes for it these days) Jian. I opened the door a couple of inches, just enough to let him see the blade in my hand with its tip resting on the floor. he looked at me, then at the blade, then back at me. I could see an idea forming in his mind, and he said "I've got the wrong apartment, don't I?" I replied "yes sir, you do. Have a nice day." When I closed the door he took off like a scared rabbit and I haven't seen him again. That was 3 months ago, and I have had no further disturbances.

The blade I have is not too expensive (about 300 bucks), but is razor sharp and performs well in cutting exercises. I believe it is referred more or less as a Jian but I have seen it called a double edged katana before. I think that is a misnomer because the only "Katana-like" part is the hilt and binding, the blade is straight, tapering gracefully to the tip. It is quite well bound, having no rattle or looseness at all, and the parts are all well finished with no casting marks left behind.

/more than sufficient to scare away unknowns beating on your door at 9:00 PM.
// could have used the mossberg or 1911, decided against it.

Stuff like this always bothers me. In states that allow for open carry, shouldn't that include any sort of weapon? Laws like "stand-your-ground" always seem to be brought up in regards to firearm use, but what if I want to carry a set of nunchaku on my belt? It seems like you lose all arms bearing protections the moment you want to carry around anything that doesn't spew bullets.

I'd reserve judgement until pictures of the two involved were issued. This can equally swing towards "Insane pokemon kid" or "Nerd standing ground against Ogre & company".

That's more than likely what the kid was actually telling himself and/or screaming while going batshiat crazy. It's always somebody else's fault.
