I've been a Saints' fan since the days of Jim Mora's USFL All-Star team (you think you know, but you don't know Jim before "Playoffs?!?"); what the redheaded spokesape is doing with Vilma is incredible.

FTFA: While ESPN reports the NFL has offered Jonathan Vilma a deal that could reduce his year-long suspension, the NFL denies making any offer.

The four-letter network just making shiat up again? Unpossible.

But the NFL doesn't want this to end up in court. Was there a bounty program? Yes. Was Vilma a part of it? I doubt it. Is his Saints' career over? With #50 and a new DC in town, probably.

I love how the saints fans, including sam jackson, changed what was happening from "getting paid to injure and perhaps ruin the career of other players" to "Just put a tutu on the QB".

All the NO fans that defended this are assbags. I'm pretty sure if there had been a bounty on putting Brees out of a few games they'd start doing that superdome rape thing again.

The fans who cheered when Wade Wilson blew out his knee, raped folks in the Katrina shelter, yeah, lots of 'em are now in Houston and Atlanta. Different city after the storm.

Gregggggggggg Williams is a piece of shiat. I can see now why he didn't get the Redskins' gig after Gibbs retired (again).

Was there a bounty program? Yes. Loomis and Payton knew about it. I think they both ought to be fired after their suspensions are up. Was Vilma a part of the program? I'm not sure. That the guy only had three penalties (and zero personal fouls) over the past few years says a lot.

Silent participation in a conspiracy is still participation in a conspiracy. As to the supposedly hyperbolic remark attributed to him which has him singled out, well, could have been addressed by him not participating in the conspiracy, and if necessary reporting it himself to the NFL. I don't happen to think that was necessary; Mr. Benson has too much invested in the crown jewel of his empire to risk the brand so foolishly. Unless he's a farking idiot.

Tickle Mittens: Silent participation in a conspiracy is still participation in a conspiracy.

True. But the NFL is afraid to make its evidence stand up to proper legal scrutiny.

And see, that's the crux of the issue. There's little corroboration that it's him, and the NFL is presenting the evidence as God's-honest-truth. So, in civil court, it becomes a case of whether or not Vilma is a public figure, and whether or not the league is acting with "actual malice." If he's not a public figure, all he's got to do is establish that the evidence is questionable, and he's being hurt financially (which he clearly is).

The league can document when it sent the C&D notices to the Saints. The evidence that Loomis and Payton just ignored them is stronger than any other evidence I've seen the league present.

As for Benson being an idiot, all I can say is, "Could be worse. Could be a Rooney."

So even if he didn't do anything, because he was required to be in the room and listen to a speech, he needs to be punished. And only him.

Or are you suggesting everyone who has ever listened to a coach talk about opponent injuries and advise to attack them, or use violent metaphors should be kicked out of football for a year? Well, other than no NFL, college, or HS football, I don't see any issues with that line of thought.
