Judging someone based on their highschool report card? No thanks. He's got plenty other things to be criticized for, this isn't one of them.

/my 9th grade English teacher wrote that I was a source of constant distraction in the class and that I didn't take my academic studies seriously

I'd rather see his Schedule C than a whole rack of Cs on his report card.

almost assuredly a fake, since it would say Romney, Willard (since that is his legal first name)

Certainly it looks like my report cards. I showed "great promise" also. Luckily, I was smart enough to get decent grades without actually straining too hard to do the work, and I knew how to game the system. In 11th grade, in NYS at the time if you were going for a "Regents Diploma" you took the English Regents test, and your grade for the year was either your class grade, or your score on the Regents. I got a 54 in English that year because I knew that I'd do well on the Regents, so I didn't do most of the homework. I got a 92 on the Regents, so that was my grade that year.

They subsequently changed the requirements years later so that you had to be passing the class in order to take the Regents exam, probably because of people like me.

First published by the Boston Globe in 2007, so if it's a fake, we'd likely already know.

Also, having attended private school, if everyone (staff included) knew him as "Mitt", it's entirely possible they used that as his name on their documents. It's not like they'd confuse him with any of the other Mitts, right?

// went through 2 years of high school with my name misspelled on every document they gave me
// which was weird; I'd attended that school since 6th grade, and 11th was when the misspellings started

The rub here, again, being the bad play of Obama. Obama wants tax returns, Mitt wants school records.
Obama can get the school records released, doesn't matter that he may not have them in his filing cabinet in the Oval Office. Once he has released all that is asked of him, Mitt has nothing to hide behind.

I support Obama for president. Doesn't mean he couldn't play this better. I don't think he owes it to us to release his school records, either. But in ANY situation where documents are withheld "what's he hiding?" is going to be the question.

How in the holy blue fark is this considered a bad play by Obama? Obama has already released 12 years of his tax returns, and been hounded for years that the birth certificates (unprecedented for any President to release publicly) were insufficient. By any reasonable count, Romney is down by two, at minimum. He needs to play a bit of "catch up" before he's in any position to demand new releases.

It's a private prep school largely for children of privilege. I attended the equivalent in my hometown. As a general rule, I can promise you that the private school teachers are much more worried about saying something "risky" about THOSE snowflakes.

They have no union. Their income is lower and there's no tenure. If a wealthy family...particularly one with a school wing already named after them or a powerful politician in the gene pool...wants a teacher's contract to be un-renewed, the teacher will be working on their resume by nightfall.

Having said that, I got plenty of similar "commented" report cards with "not working to potential" notes because you have to say something when not giving the snowflake an A. "Because he's average" won't cut it if your parents are paying the equivalent of Ivy League tuition for 6th grade Spanish.

Because he's using Reid to do the dirty work so he doesn't get his hands bloody. Which is tragic - Obama can call up Reid to tell him to lie about Romney, but he apparently can't be bothered to call up Reid and get a jobs bill passed. I mean, it's totally expected considering the four years of laziness we've seen so far, but the extent Obama will go to not do any productive work while playing dirty is always disturbing.

Boehner and company can't do anything other than pass I love jesus, the constitution and guns resolutions.
The senate has to have 60 votes to get anything done and that isn't happening because of the GOP

They'd laugh at any kind of job stimulus that wasn't 100% tax cuts for the 1%

OK, dude, seriously. The bullying incident was one thing, not so much for what he did at the time as how he has reacted to it (or, more to the point, failed to react to it) in his later years. That's genuinely troubling.

But his high school grades? Seriously? Is that the best they can do? If the search for new dirt on this guy has gone so poorly that they're having to resort to using high school report cards, then perhaps it is time to look for a new campaign strategy.

From his wiki (emphasis added): Romney was preceded in birth by three siblings: Margo Lynn, Jane LaFount, and G. Scott. Mitt followed after a gap of nearly six years. He was named after family friend, hotel magnate J. Willard Marriott, and his father's cousin Milton "Mitt" Romney, a former quarterback for the Chicago Bears.[14] He was called "Billy" until kindergarten, when he indicated a preference for "Mitt".[15]

They were a lot less uptight about legal name on the form etc in 1961 than they are today.

That being said, I'm with you on thinking it's probably fake.

I said nothing of Reid. Obama is asking for info from others, while others are asking for info from him. What we want to see from Mitt is FAR more important. But, when asking for info from someone, it is wise to release what they are asking for, if it is something as innocuous as school records. We are certain that Obama can be proud of his school history, right? So show how awesome it is, and they are left with their excuses for Mitt with nothing left to ask of Obama, regarding his past.

s2s2s2: More_Like_A_Stain: factual information that verifies Reid acted at Obama's command

I said nothing of Reid.

sprawl15's troll alt: Because he's using Reid to do the dirty work so he doesn't get his hands bloody. Which is tragic - Obama can call up Reid to tell him to lie about Romney, but he apparently can't be bothered to call up Reid and get a jobs bill passed.

That's a whole lot of nothing.

Obama is asking for info from others, while others are asking for info from him. What we want to see from Mitt is FAR more important.

Yes it is, especially when Mitt has demanded the same info from opponents in other races, and refused to release his own. It really does give the impression that he's hiding something really bad. And on top of that, his wife states that "you people have been given all you need to know", and that releasing any more info will be damaging to the campaign. Great way to sweep it under the rug there, Princess.

But, when asking for info from someone, it is wise to release what they are asking for, if it is something as innocuous as school records.

But if it's something important like tax records that could answer real questions regarding the candidates business dealings when those same dealings are an integral part of the campaign, well fark 'em.

We are certain that Obama can be proud of his school history, right? So show how awesome it is, and they are left with their excuses for Mitt with nothing left to ask of Obama, regarding his past.

Let's reach a point of parity before we start making any more ridiculous demands.

I would say hiding 50 MILLION dollars in Europe is a lot more of a concern to the American public than a farking B minus in Algebra.

I mean, it's totally expected considering the four years of laziness we've seen so far, but the extent Obama will go to not do any productive work while playing dirty is always disturbing.

Bloody? Too much. Try dirty. Reid just probably doesn't want Romney to be President and doesn't mind flinging poo. Simplest theory is best theory.

I was not aware the Senate could pass laws unilaterally.

Do you need the list of everything Obama has done in his first term (remember he destroyed America)?

Good lord, what does someone need to do in order to be recognized as a troll? Actually add "troll alt" to the end of their name? Oh wait, even that's not enough.

Oh well. There is enough genuine stupidity in these threads I don't know why we need people imitating the derp. Missed the handle but the post was no dumber than I've seen in most threads.

If I didn't respond to dumb posts on Fark, what else would I do? There are only so many links in the Boobies tab.

What I see is a total lack of vision in someone who would have a near future living in France for a few years and yet being totally blasè about French class. Yes he didn't KNOW his future there ... but someone with vision would connect to it.

Considering one of those isn't me, that is correct.

Mitt IS hiding something bad, and I've stated that.

So did I, earlier. I also said:

s2s2s2: I don't think he owes it to us to release his school records, either. But in ANY situation where documents are withheld "what's he hiding?" is going to be the question.

Are we discussing how to play the game, as it is(the way the GOP even stays toe to toe[let alone wins so often], while peddling derp)?
Or is it about how you'd like the game to be played?

If I recall correctly, Mittens was admitted to Stanford before he debarked on his Mormon mission. How that happened w/ those grades can only be explained by who his dad was.

miss diminutive: Judging someone based on their highschool report card? No thanks. He's got plenty other things to be criticized for, this isn't one of them.

My grades were a lot better than him and I wasn't allowed into an ivy league school. It's not so much about Mitt as it is the system of generational wealth.

Because getting a politician to like is like asking a cow for milk, whereas getting something passed in congress in like herding cats.

xanadian: So..... Mitt was a typical high-school teenager.

Okay then.

Actually, given that Romney has some actual, clinical symptoms of an underlying disorder (flat effect and the sense of something 'off' about him, which got him nicknamed 'Romneybot'; his inability to tell that something will make people mad at him, hence his chronic foot-in-mouth syndrome; that sort of thing), I'm fairly interested in his childhood.

Admittedly, this screams 'boy with an ego', which is about as useful as shiat on a dinner plate, but still. I can see the interest.

It's possible. Probable even. In fact, why wouldn't he have a photoshopped copy of a recent Columbia ID with a bar code and a picture of him when he was 40?

Mitt released his high school report cards, but won't release his income tax returns?

Huh?
