God's finally talking to someone "on the record" again. Who could he have been talking to?

But geez, can't he just come down himself? I mean, this is arson. God is such an asshole sometime. I mean, if *I* poured a gallon of gasoline on a desert plant and set it alight just to catch someone's ear about their future as a prophet, they'd lock me away!

Inflatable Rhetoric: What's random about it?

There is a large block of burning cacti in that part of the desert. Incidentally, birds have built nests in some but not others. A grid was overlaid on the block and each point on that grid represents one cactus, each being assigned a value via: "Yij = μ + Ti + Bj + bird nest". ("bird nest" being a nuisance factor). Then one point on the grid was chosen by way of eenie meenie minie moe and that burning cactus was photographed.

The reason the smoke is black, is because most cacti generate their own kerosene. This is why the cactus is not generally edible. Also, if you walk up to a cactus, they can sense that you are there and will wrap their arms around you and inject kerosene into your body with their needles.

Are you hinting the cacti aren't what they ought to be?

weird indeed, and sad. That saguaro may be a couple hundred years old or more.

I lived in AZ for maaaaaany years and never saw anything like that, nor even thought it could happen, but apparently it can.
