It's slightly different temperatures on the equipment. Set aside a fryer and a portion of the grill for breakfast items and you're good to go.

I have to believe McDonald's, of all places, would be able to work out the logistics

/basically just differences in defrost temps, after all
//no, I am not entirely serious

For drunk food, you're going to hit up McDonald's if they're dishing out Egg McMuffins at midnight.

Hell, all I want right now is a McGriddle, since they've mastered crystallizing syrup, and I'm not willing to settle for a McDouble.

I wonder how many customers at that hour are sober enough to care what they're eating.

Okay, maybe the opening shift workers at coffee and donut shops, but who else?

I want a Sausage McMuffin RIGHT NOW!

Actually, I drive a lot both for my job and for my personal life, and sometimes I'd really like to eat something at 4am. I happen to really like the Sausage McMuffin, so I think this would be a good fit ;)

I've never actually ordered breakfast from there because their burgers are just too good.

I worked at a place that served Tacos and Subs in Buffalo around 2001-2002-ish. We actually had a great run most nights at about 3:15 am, but it helped that bars in Buffalo were open until 4 am.

It also helped to work there that bars were open until 4 am on the nights we closed earlier, because I really needed a drink after dealing with fast food customers from 2 to 5 am.

Absolutely this.

You people do realize that people who wake up at 10PM to go to work do NOT want breakfast for lunch, right?

Two thoughts merged. Bars re-opened about 7 am, which was nice, and some nights I got out before 2. So, I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

That's basically what we did when I worked at Hardee's and briefly experimented with anything, anytime.

So, is it harder to get a breakfast item later in the day or a dinner item at 9am?

I've always wondered which one McD is more strict about.

Never seen what the big deal was about that place. They opened one near me back when I lived in Orlando, and I went there two or three times. It was OK, nothing fantastic (a friend of a friend from Texas apparently ate there multiple times a week); apparently, everyone else in the area felt that way because it closed no longer than a year or two after it opened.

generally that means doubling the number of grills operating at once. The 'lunch' menu is cooked at a much higher temperature and with different accessories. The Breakfast uses two stainless steel 'forms' for the eggs (yes, they're eggs, just like in the grocery store) , while the beef patties are cooked under a clamshell apparatus that cooks both sides at once.

I think it's brilliant to serve breakfast at midnight.

Screw breakfast. I'm still waiting for my Lamb McSpicy to make it to the US. It's been fifteen years since I was in London's Victoria Station and tasted that delicious amalgamation of fat, grease, lard, oil, and salt (plus I think a little lamb meat).

The issue isn't just the temperatures, only certain things can be cooked on certain grills..... (crossing eggs with meat/sausage etc...)

I've never heard that one. As long as the grill is hot enough, everything should be fine.

Kraftwerk Orange: I've never heard that one. As long as the grill is hot enough, everything should be fine.

This might be part of the issue (the temp) McDonalds has very specific timings and ways they want things to be cooked. The meat grill tends to be really hot in order to cook things really fast (hence, why the meat is so slim generally) The egg grill (when I was there) was considerably lower temp.

They also need to expand the morning service to at least noon. I can't possibly be expected to be awake enough to drive to McD's by 10am on a Sunday.

If McDonald's had breakfast available any time they'd get a lot more business from me. During the week I'm too busy trying to make it to work and on weekends I'd rather sleep in.

good point. if you're at Mcdonalds at 3 a.m., either you are going thru some unseen circumstances or you are bottomed out and down and out.

it would be an epiphany.

There's plenty of situations where someone living a reasonable life could be at McDonalds at 3am.

Maybe they're a student with a project or paper due soon.
Or maybe they're working the night shift of a job.
Or maybe they're staying up to watch the London olympics live.
etc.

Only a bunch of nerds on Fark would think going to McD's at 3am for food would be "bottoming out". For others with an active social life may find themselves craving a fatty juicy burger after a night out drinking with their friends.
