You can always tell when someone has a History Channel level understanding of WWII because they launch into ridiculous hyperbole like comparing current political situations to Hitler's regime. It's pure, dumb histrionics and should be ignored. Anyone who has read first-hand accounts or met people who lived through it would laugh at him for saying that because no, Morrissey... people have to get a lot dumber and the government more brazen by a long way to get that bad.

Well, nonsensical as Mozza's latest comments are, at least they're rather less racist than his usual attacks on the country he left twenty years ago and which amazingly isn't exactly the same as it was when he decided he didn't like paying tax here.

... see also John Cleese.

thamike: Ne might be crazy, but he's absolutely correct.

Correct? He's barely coherent.

I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism? The 'dazzling royals' have, quite naturally, hi-jacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness.

I mean, where do you even start unpacking that amount of dumb hyperbole?

This American hasn't seen a single Olympic event, has not kept up with the medal tally and doesn't really give a damn.

No. We are able to understand what he is talking about without being being outrageously hyperbolic .

Who do you think is sponsoring Morrissey's next world tour?

So England is going to invade Poland? No wonder they've been getting all those medals in rowing, they've got a hidden agenda going on.

Watching this Olympics makes me so glad that Chicago didn't get the next one. Oh, it would have been a nice legacy and another occasion for the rich in the city to show off how important they are. Instead, all of us normal people who wanted the Olympics as far as possibly from where we work and live were treated to a delicious case of schadenfreude.

I gotta say, i'm trying to enjoy myself but the illusion is failing, like Morrisey says, "...the England outside London shivers beneath cutbacks, tight circumstances and economic disasters."

Lost his mind because he's right? I'm guessing subby is just as enamored with all the jobless 20-something losers who live with their parents while they "dedicate" themselves to the noble task of being really good at swimming or jumping, while the braindead masses clap like tards looking at a bag of marbles at their "achievements".

I'm sorry to have to hate, but if you watch the olympics - you're a complete simpleton, and part of the problem of this world.

Triumph: Sorry Subby, but he's right and it ain't just Britain. We landed a SUV-sized rover on Mars today and it was the fifth item on the NBC Nightly News. The Olympics has always been ruling-class propaganda theater. Do you know who invented the torch relay? That's right - him.

Agreed - and this is probably the most coherent thing Morrissey has said in over a decade.

Subby, you spelled "...is 100% right" wrong.

2012-08-07 11:06:45 AM
The "Germany 1939" stuff is a bit Godwin, but he's right. The idiotic jingoism is really getting on my nerves.

I have no problem with national support. You're a football fan, you watch England regularly, support them, and they win, you've got a right to say "Yes, England". Someone wins at dressage or one-footed Monopoly, unless you're a dressage or one-footed Monopoly fan, then you're a jingoistic douchebag if you celebrate it 5 seconds after the result came in. Winning at that sport doesn't actually mean anything to you, so why are you celebrating it?

I swear to god, if you created a sport called Random Philosopher Pick where someone had to pick random names of philosophers out of a hat, and stuck it in the Olympics, Britons would be cheering on the fact that Karl Popper or John Locke got picked instead of Simone de Beauvoir or Kirkegaard.

When entertainers make over-the-top political statements, I can't help but wonder if they are serious, or if it is just attention whoring. They can't stand being out of the spotlight and this is just another way to get noticed. Not that anyone should take the political opinions of entertainers (or children) seriously.
