Carmelo Anthony took one for the team.

2012-08-06 08:08:04 PM
what events are scheduled for prime time tonight?

2012-08-06 08:09:57 PM
Well, at least it's not a beach volleyball blowout.

2012-08-06 08:12:24 PM

soosh: what events are scheduled for prime time tonight?

Listings web site says: More apparatus finals in gymnastics, mens 400m final in track and field, qualifying in mens springboard diving, mens beach volleyball quarterfinal and the mens sprint final in track cycling.

However, from what I've seen, it's a pretty loose schedule.

2012-08-06 08:13:39 PM
I think it's funny that they call this slow race a sprint.

more diving & volleyball. whoop-d-f*cking-do.

I do not understand why they feel the need to show quarterfinal events in something like beach volleyball when there is so much else going on.

Earguy: I think it's funny that they call this slow race a sprint.

Only the last 200 meters are times, before then it's all about strategy.

Also in the first one they showed the speed for the last 200 meters was just over 70km/h, that's a bit over 43 miles an hour.

2012-08-06 08:16:53 PM
sweet! they got the Tour De France guys in the booth.

I've just about had it with that shiat. I'd be willing to bet the two Americans lead the world in screen time over any American athletes in the last 20 years including Phelps. Bikinis or not I don't give two shiats if they never show another second of beach volleyball.

2012-08-06 08:18:41 PM
Good for them!

You know, if they're going to have horse events in the Olympics, they should go ahead and include auto racing.

SPOILER: Kirk sleeps with Orion slave woman

2012-08-06 08:22:42 PM
Wish they would show more of the velodrome stuff in prime time, it's good stuff. Also the bikes are pretty cool.

Well only for half the audience...

"And now, for men's diving..."

There we go, equal time.

Last night's James Bond piece was infuriating. Long, boring, and filling up space that could have been used for... oh, I don't know, the Olympics? Also, Mary and Bob Costas have zero chemistry - they should be banned from bantering.

2012-08-06 08:23:29 PM

way back in olden times, they had both auto racing and power boat racing.

I'm kinda with you...sure, show medal games. But there's so much exciting stuff going on that don't even get a 30-second highlight in this primetime broadcast. Pretty maddening.

Are you guys finally going to get to see the Men's 100m?

Neat.

I think the argument against that is the horses are technically athletes in their own right. They're living creatures that train as hard as human athletes do.

Have they done the pony prom yet? I know there was some jumping over stuff already.

I don't actually care, mind you, but I stole 'pony prom' from another thread, and promised to use it every chance I got. Pony prom.

I'll say it again, those "locale" pieces belong on the Today Show, not during prime time highlights.

The US-Canada soccer match was thrilling yet we got like a minute.. oh well

"The Americans advanced by continuing its dominance of the neighbor to the north, extending its unbeaten streak against Canada to 27 games (23-0-4). The Americans lead the all-time series 44-3-5, the last loss coming at the Algarve Cup in 2001."

Mary Carillo is about as entertaining as Bob Dole having a wet dream.

Costas has far surpassed Jim Lampley as an object of derision, and is rapidly approaching Curt Gowdy territory of sad irrelevance.

If they're going to have the horses jump and dance around, why not horse racing? Do they have actual polo? or that variation from Afghanistan where they use an inflated goatskin?

dog racing, too. dogs ridden by small monkeys.

Then why stop with horses?
Let cheetahs compete in the 100m dash. Let Phelps race a dolphin. Let wallabies into boxing (hell, that would probably be an improvement).

I wonder why NBC hasn't gotten Greg Louganis to be the color commentator for diving.

60% hearing...MEANS NOTHING. THERE IS NO SUCH THING.

When people tell me that, I ask, do you mean 60% gone, or 60% remaining?

I refuse to give my patients a percentage. It's just not that simple.

I'm so sick of this spoiler-free crap. Why is Fark joining this absurd charade and pretending it's still 1996? If anything, Fark should be working to subvert the stupidity.

Few things are as satisfying as when a subject matter in a Fark thread (or event covered by a thread) falls into your wheelhouse.

Just GISed it, and I'll simply confirm that Rule 34 is again supported by evidence.
