God knows they apologized, subby. As long as God knows, what does it matter who else does? God has forgiven them, and in the end that's the only forgiveness that matters.

The Wilsons have said that Weatherford, the pastor, told them he could be fired if the wedding was held in his church.

Then you should have done the right thing and gotten fired, you damned pussy assed non-Christian charlatan.

most houses of worship have a very few key local families/parishioners with deep pockets. those fat donations are very powerful. usually those families are also the most widely found name in the local cemetery because they've been around from before the town was established. their relatives are everywhere in the town limits and they have their finger in every business.

too bad they suck at being human beings.

FTFA: The First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs posted the apology on its website Sunday, saying it was seeking "forgiveness and reconciliation" with Charles Wilson and Te'Andrea Henderson Wilson, their families and friends and God.

Are we sure the problem is that they were black and not that one was probably a Jaffa? A reluctance towards human/alien marriages is somewhat more understandable and still falls under the umbrella of "racial relations".

He was apologizing to the media for getting caught, that's all. He didn't give a shiat about the couple because his congregation didn't either; they just wanted the dingy folks to STFU & GTFO.

But losing his job over some other people would mean sacrificing himself.... and didn't Jesus die on the cross to teach us all how much self-sacrifice sucks?

I knew this would happen as soon as gay marriage started becoming accepted... Now you can marry two black people! What's next, an amputee is going to marry a black, an oriental, and a siamese kitten? That's just fantastic!

He said only one or two people from the church have contacted him in recent weeks, and they did so personally and not as representatives of the church.

Yeah, it was the church and its congregants who pulled this crap. The reverend himself did apologize to the couple for his backwards congregants and married them himself, albeit in a different church. But for the church itself to go out there and say... But but, WE apologized! The reverend apologized and he speaks for all of us... then why the hell didn't you listen to the reverend in the first place before it became a national shiatstorm?

Why is this pastor (and the idiots who influenced his decision) against the sanctity of traditional marriage? I thought Christians were super into that sort of thing.

Religious Liberals comes trippingly to the tongue. Used to just mean UUs and maybe a few lefty UCCs, but what's left of the old-line denominations could probably fit in. Especially if they realized how much very empty space there now is, theologically and socially, between them and the worshipers of Supply Side Jesus.

Christ did provide exceptions for the times when doing the right thing might not work out so well for you. I mean, he did renounce his teachings and revoked his claim to divinity to avoid being crucified, right?

His name is Coolio, and he used to have a show on VH1 called "Pimp My Bride" where people of color would compete to win a wedding makeover. This thread is about a black couple getting married, so...

The pastor said in an earlier interview that he did not mind marrying the couple but that some of his congregation did. He performed the ceremony, but at a different church.

If someone had tried to tell me that I could not marry my wife in a church because she is black there is NO WAY that that person would be performing the ceremony, period.

This pastor was confronted by evil (the racist hatred in the hearts of some of his congregation). Instead of smiting that evil he cowered from it and gave into it. That is sickening. The only thing that it takes for evil to flourish is apathy from those who should oppose it.
