So the price jumps six bucks and he unloads a bundle of stock and says "Nah, I changed my mind" sometime next week.

No he didn't. He floated the idea out there. It's never going to happen. But in the meantime, his humongous stake in Best Buy will get a nice boost.

No. Last week he was floating the idea out there. This week he is formally moving ahead with the process. And just doing it to "boost" the stock price so he could dump it - would open himself up to sanctions and a few hundred lawsuits.

/now whether or not it will succeed is a completely valid question

He'll restore Best Buy back to its former glory of the early 1990s when it had some of the worst customer service and return policies of any big box store.
