I get the feeling there may be something more to this story. . .

You can't murder the willing.

Seriously, 90 and 84 years old? What possible reason could they have to go on living? And if they're like most people from that generation, the husband made all of the decisions while the wife cooked and cleaned. She wouldn't have the initiative to think of double suicide much less carry it out. Good on him for being a strong leader through the very end.

Married for 62 years? He already did his life sentence, guess he figured he might as well done the murder too.

Police say Cross fatally stabbed his wife, 84-year-old Page Arrington Cross, June 24 at their home in a Hilton Head retirement community, before stabbing himself and shooting himself in the head.

Damn, that is one resilient 90yo.

I dunno, HSM Coxeter, a guy I had the great pleasure of trading a coupla letters with, was 96 when he died. He was still doing first-rate mathematical work.

wait! 90 years old and doesn't die after being shot in the head? And stabbed?

ok...maybe they are the greatest generation. or the most impregnable generation.

My thoughts exactly... Seems like the article just glazed right over the fact that this MOFO took a bullet to the head and is going to stand trial now...

Knife would be a lot quicker, assuming she was going along with it.

We're going to have a trial for this guy? Just keep him in a psych facility until he croaks.

He was just waiting until the kids died.

/how did he stab himself and shoot himself in the head and survive? Did he stab first?

No sissies in that room.
Around here the old guys would take their small boat out to get the last of their lobster pots, in November.

Growin' old aint for pussies.

damn sad that in 2012 americans are not able to have the right to die with dignity. something clean, painless, assisted.

watching a senior citizen slowly disintegrate is bad enough. being that person - no, thank you.

Yeah, this feels like a "murder"-suicide in which he failed.

I completely agree. It is considered humane to euthanize an animal that can no longer cope with everyday life, but immoral if we do it to humans. The hypocrisy and farking religion that says we are different/better needs to stop. I hope I pass away long before getting to a condition that makes me an invalid or something similar.
