Team needs more Chad Ocho whatever he calls himself these days. By the way, I hate to threadjack, but the new Fark Fappers League for fantasy football sent out 12 invites last week, 11 responded. So one more is needed. This will be a first come thing first serve thing. The well established UFIA league is going into it's 4th season, and 7 of 12 have responded. I'll be sending out invites again later today. This time next week I'll be looking for any to join that one. The past 2 seasons we lost 2 and 1, so we'll how that one goes. End thread jack.

/Wish the Hawks would have got Moss too.

Give Matt Flynn the job. Make Wilson the backup. Send Jackson to the CFL.

MAYORBOB: What did Pete Carroll ever do to deserve this? Oh, right, USC. Very well, karma at work.

I was gonna go off on a rant about Pete Carroll always running to the NFL for a few years when the NCAA sanctions hit and biding his time till the storm blows over and he can return to the little leagues, but you said it far more succinctly, thanks!

What is it about athletes not planning financially for their futures? There was a story some years back about OchoStinko being broke during the heyday of his career. He had landed a huge contract the year before, then he was suddenly broke and demanding renegotiation of his contract to make more money.

Owens doesn't love the game, he's broke. If he did love the game, he would have been having fun in the Arena League team, but, nope, he's just a glory hound looking to make headlines anyway he can. He and Carroll deserve each other.

Plaxico is still available. Maybe their locker room cancerousness would cancel out. Or double.

2012-08-06 09:28:02 AM
He's a camp body - if he can play to the level he played in his last year at Cincy, he's a steal, and if he can't, well...bye.

There's a good saying called "It doesn't hurt to try" and the current Seahawks regime seems to take this attitude toward signing guys for training camp. I like it.

That's probably how it's going to wind up. (With Josh Portis as the third-stringer, most likely.) But they can't just anoint a new guy after Jackson did yeomanlike work a year ago. The guy isn't a starting-caliber QB in the NFL, but he did show guts and win a lot of respect in the locker room, so they won't send him packing until he has clearly been outplayed in camp.

I don't know what the team is thinking by signing all these old dudes at WR. Rice, Baldwin, Tate, Obomanu, Durham, Lockette - that's six guys I'd like to see make the team at the position. There's zero chance either of the two unproven young guys, Durham and Lockette, would clear waivers and make it to the practice squad. The rest aren't eligible. I guess I wouldn't shed too many tears if they let Obomanu go, but even then I don't see how the old dudes are any kind of upgrade.

IAmRight: There's a good saying called "It doesn't hurt to try" and the current Seahawks regime seems to take this attitude toward signing guys for training camp. I like it.

Well, a frequent refrain is "this is a zero-risk move, the worst case is he has nothing left and gets cut in camp." But I'd say the real worst case is the staff falls in love with his veteran-ness and he takes a roster spot from someone who then goes on to become an impact player for another team.

Super Chronic: But I'd say the real worst case is the staff falls in love with his veteran-ness

Haven't seen much of an indication of anyone running the team giving a damn about veteran-ness.

/I'd be fine if they get rid of Tate. Not worried about him doing anything anywhere else.

Seattle seems to be hoping that Winslow and Thomas can take a lot of passes in their system. Baldwin in the slot, Lockette the deep threat, Tate a catchall, and Rice on the bench wishing he were healthy seems to be the way the starters will end up. Obomanu is decent, but he has dropped a few passes in major situations. Durham is still a little too raw.

As far as QB goes, the coaches seem to love Wilson and Portis and view them both as "projects." The question is whether or not they want a "project" one hit away from starting. At least with Jackson, you have a decent QB who can manage a game.

I don't know why anyone ever gets upset about this shiat. The reason the NFL has the most compelling regular season in big-time US sports is they can just cut players who aren't performing. If they don;t like what they see, if he's anything other than an engaged and helpful gentleman they can just say see you later. Frankly I'm sort of rooting for him. I hate all these slow motion train wrecks we get to see with veteran [players and it's nice to see the rare guy turn it around and make the most of it. Will TO's story have that kind of ending? Probably not. But maybe.

Not really. I live on Cap Hill, enjoy the Sounders and the Tour de France as my fave sports outside the Olympics. I certainly don't dress hipster-ish, and I don;t listen to what I would consider hipster (whiny) music. So nope, just a regular Seattle-ite, one of the over 60,000 that packed the stadium last night, and one of the 39,000+ that is in regular attendance.
