And the Romans I he quoted goes on to condem:

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

How much longer does America have to wait before we classify Christianity as a hate group?

Wow. So soon, right after one of their own boys just shot up a church. Classy.

Vodka Zombie: How much longer does America have to wait before we classify Christianity as a hate group?

"christianity" is not a hate group anymore than "American" is a hate group. It's not even a singular group but a classification of SEVERAL groups, very few of them who would classify as "hate groups".

2012-08-05 04:18:53 PM
That's an inevitable outcome from modern Christianity. It will happen. Not maybe, will, and sooner than we expect.

According to Leviticus 20:13, "If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

It's statements like this for which this meme was farking meant:

I'm serious. If you're a believer, then be a farking believer and accept the consequences. Maybe you'll get shot in the face by a gay man you didn't know was armed. Maybe you'll be arrested. Maybe you'll be executed. But you won't be a disingenuous pussy flinging shiat without backing it up anymore.

/I hope it's the first one.

Just a quick query, if you're a Christian that wants to condemn homosexuality as a sin but don't want to be bothered with that whole "stone the gays to death" part, please explain to me where Paul upholds the sexual standards except for those deadly punishments.

Christ never said anything about homosexuality one way or the other. you'd figure that if it was important to him, he'd have mentioned it a few times.

hmm.

well, that aside, most evangelicals aren't actually 'christian'.

The new Testament includes Jesus saying a lot of shiat after he dies, and then speaking through various followers for several books. If you believe the central tenet of the religion (Jesus went to hell after dying, kicked satan around a bit, then came back) then you pretty much necessarily have to accept the later teachings of Paul, etc. If you arbitrarily cut it off at the stuff he said when he was alive, you're explicitly rejecting the resurrection, which is, y'know, theologically kind of a deal-breaker.

//Not a Christian, just literate.

If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman

Given that most men lack vaginas, I think this is a hard rule to break.

In better news, here's the spectacular first TV lesbian kiss from a late 80s episode of Brookside, that the British slipped into the montage of the Olympic Opening Ceremony, making it the first gay kiss ever broadcast in Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Double bonus credit: If you're one or those Biblical literalists, you should prove the infallibility of your book by drinking some cyanide, as Mark 16:17-18 suggests:

"And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

It's like that one relative everyone has. They show up at gatherings and eventually they blurt something incredibly inappropriate out. They just assume that everyone agrees with them so it's not bad to say.

I'd say it's not so much "rejecting the resurrection" as "rejecting the theological views of the guy who enumerated the basics of Christian theology in the first place." Without the writings of Paul, there isn't much of a concept of the meaning of the crucifixion/resurrection to talk about. Not to mention the fact that the gospels were written at least 20 years after Paul wrote, and were almost certainly influenced by his theology, so it isn't correct to treat them is being antecedent.

Now, between pseudographical writings and translation related weirdness, there is certainly room for debate about what Paul actually thought about stuff. However the best possible case you can make regarding homosexuality is that "Paul wasn't familiar with the concept of monogamous faithful homosexual relationships," not "Paul totally would have been okay with gays if he actually knew better."

He uses religion as the reason for his beliefs and it is because of religion that he can get others to go along with those beliefs and continue to support and elect him.

It's crazy that we can have officials who openly support and call for the adoption of a set of laws that are in direct conflict with our accepted rights as human beings.

Oh, America, will you ever cease to disappoint me?

Just let it go, man, because it's gone ...
