Sweet. Thanks Admins. Scheduling with the ABC move was a bit screwy.

/de Silvestra still on the lead lap after a green flag pit stop?

I'm glad we have one of the races that isn't rained out.

2012-08-05 01:37:39 PM
P2P really seems to have handicapped RHR by at least 5 spots per race. He can't afford to keep running like this on the road courses and expect to be able to pull it out of the fire at California.

2012-08-05 01:39:18 PM
I don't like P2P. It's always felt to me like someone was playing Mario Kart, got a mushroom, and thought, "Hey, that would be AWESOME in real life!"

2012-08-05 01:39:23 PM
RHR has looked particularly lost this race. Wonder if it was just the scuffed Reds?

2012-08-05 01:41:15 PM
Just like the old days, Bob Jenkins calling a race on ABC. Yay!

Not-Kimball is on fire today. Of course, it's easy to look like a hero when you've already used 70 seconds of boost.

In fairness, Helio has used 96 seconds and TK has used 80...

doesn't strike me as entirely smart to go through most of your P2P before the race has hit 50%.

Might not have had a choice. Might need to use it just to stay in contact with the leaders and hope pit stop changes can rectify slowness.

FFS, subby... it's POLE! "Poll" is either the feathers at the top of a bird's head, or question(s) asked of people to determine how they feel about things. For example, we could take a poll concerning whether or not you're functionally illiterate...

Tsrwedge: and TK has used 80...

Hey man, it's tough out there.........

Hey y'all. Just tuned in. What have I missed?

/go Will Power!

Bourdais is putting the Penske and Ganassi boys on notice. If he keeps this up, I can see that team throwing a huge wrench in their championship plans next year. (Hell, maybe even this year.)

A green track, with lulz in the morning warm up when it rained. Continuing threat of rain. 2 vs 3 stop strategy. Lots of early P2P usage. Kimball out of his car this weekend with a broken hand. Power has been leading, but Dixon and Bourdais are on his ass.

WIN

Although to Will Power, rain on the track would be like having banana peels on every inch of it

Feels like Power could open a lead if he wanted, apart from the fuel thing.

Excellent recap. Thank you, sir. How did Kimball break his hand?

The one thing with a long road course like this is that the race turns into a F1-style high speed parade. Very little passing unless the car getting passed isn't running will (as we just saw with RHR).

I may sound like a homer, but I prefer a road course to be more like Sears Point; tight, a lot of turns, a lot of action, drivers need to be on top of their game the entire time.

Ok, now wait a minute

If this is "ESPN on ABC", how can the IndyCar coverage be somewhat *better*, at least with less commercials, than NASCAR can be over on ESPN?

They've actually changed the Sears Point configuration slightly for the next Indycar race to promote more passing. Should be interesting.

Even more confusing: This is actually the NBCSports broadcast team (I believe including producers and cameramen) but because it only occured to them a couple weeks back that this Olympic thing may get in the way, they struck a deal for ABC to broadcast.

So it's NBCSportsNetwork on ESPN on ABC.

They are lucky that wasn't a 3 car disaster there.

Almost forgot about that. So that includes their better usage of commercials to go with the deal. Got it !

the cool thing is that all of those turns are already there. No physical changes had to be made to the track.

here is Turn 7 at last year's NASCAR race. I marked the normal turn in Green, and the way Indy will go in Red.

Just tuned into this race a few minutes ago... and was wondering why I hadn't seen two commercial breaks already.

oooops, my bad. that's the exit of the carousel I just marked. the traffic cones that aren't cones, that's where they'll be making the hairpin turn.

Heh. Either way, taking the more direct turn is probably the right move for the Indycars. Looking forward to seeing how the tweaks work out.

I'm not-so-secretly hoping for a last minute rain shower here, just to mix things up.

RHR with the engine cover up on pit road.... his day is effectively done, despite still running.

Road America got it right - long straights with slow corners. most overtaking happening under braking and in corners.

Dixon's being conservative? Holy crap.

RHR is done for the day, he got the Curse of Lotus somehow... mebbe someone slipped his car a Lotus Hamster?
