Well, Gamera is pretty neat, but nothing beats Manos.

2012-08-05 11:24:24 AM
I'll go for one from each season:

Season One: Robot Holocaust
Season Two: Godzilla Vs. Megalon
Season Three: Daddy-O
Season Four: Manos: The Hands of Fate
Season Five: Mitchell
Season Six: The Beast of Yucca Flats
Season Seven: The Incredible Melting Man
Season Eight: Jack Frost
Season Nine: The Puma Man
Season Ten: Future War

That's just based on riff quality, and not the host segments.

2012-08-05 12:05:44 PM
I'll add "Eegah" and "Cave Dwellers", with (dis)honorable mention to "Master Ninja I" for the unforgettable "Master Ninja Theme Song".

That was one of the best things about the show: supplying episodes to the uninitiated.

I kinda sorta knew TMLO would be in here.

That means the Ecto Coolers are unguarded!

That, and City Limits in the ten more category? It's good, but it's not THAT good.

Also, in my book, Jack Frost beats out Space Mutiny as the Season Eight pick by only the slimmest of margins.

Mugato: The author must have been hittin' the booze to forget Giant Spider Invasion.

He was probably excited about the PACKERS WINNING THE SUPER BOWL, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Cool story, sis: Recently, I was making a stir fry, and my husband asked what cut of beef I'd bought for it. "Chuck cross rib," I read from the package.

"That sounds like a Space Mutiny name," he responded.

So I kept reading the package: "Chuck Crossrib! Steak Thin-Cut!"

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener:

Season One: Robot Holocaust
Season Two: Godzilla Vs. Megalon
Season Three: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
Season Four: The Beatniks
Season Five: Mitchell
Season Six: Last of the Wild Horses
Season Seven: Laserblast
Season Eight: Time Chasers
Season Nine: The Quest of the Delta Knights
Season Ten: Boggy Creek II: And The Legend Continues

Boy is it tough picking only 1 episode from seasons 4-6. So many great Ed Wood films too. There's no arguing the merits of your list -- I'm just trying to provide some reinforcement. The toughest choice was Season 9, where I almost picked Final Sacrifice... but I think Q of the DK deserves much more love than it usually gets!

Solid list, that. I would watch any of those like THAT.

DeltaPunch: Boy is it tough picking only 1 episode from seasons 4-6.

I hear that. I could've easily gone with The Beatniks for Season Four, Outlaw for Season Five, and San Francisco International for Season Six.

DeltaPunch: So many great Ed Wood films too.

Which is too bad that they didn't give Plan 9 from Outer Space the go-ahead, since RiffTrax did just that (and for one of their live shows, too).

No, I dig, I follow, totally. It's just as how there's no arguing the merits of YOUR list.

Season 9 *was* a toughie. That spot could just as easily have been filled by Werewolf or Hobgoblins or The Final Sacrifice or even underappreciated titles like The Deadly Bees and Devil Fish.

Jamdug!: Anybody have the link to all these?

You can find a whole boatload of these episodes on YouTube, it's just a matter of looking around for them.

You'll want to go for the videos that are around 90 minutes in length, as opposed to the episodes that are chopped up into segments (if you can help it).

Whatever you can't find on YouTube, you can try to hunt it down via Google Video.

To get you started, here's my favorite episode of the series, Jack Frost - enjoy! (pops, does not go to "The Final Countdown")

If we're talking sketches, I have to go with the Mystery Murder Dinner Theater sketch from Bloodlust.

I dare not ruin the punchline here.

You're very welcome!

In case you need further reference, here's a listing of all MST3K titles. (pops, also not the Countdown)

You'll want to skip past the KTMA Movies section, since this was during the show's infancy and will be only of interest to the diehard completionist fans.

The show has its moments during Season One, picks up steam during Season Two, but really hits a full stride during Season Three and doesn't stop there.

Personally, I dig all the episodes except for The Castle of Fu Manchu, but your mileage may undoubtedly vary with some of these titles.

Anywho, happy viewing!

I forgot about a lot of those. Hobgoblins was great. "It's the eighties. Do a lot of coke and vote for Ronald Reagan."

The Killer Bees was a little dry but WTF was the guy in the bowler hat who showed up during the closing credits?

Star Force: Fugitive Alien II is a must see. Monster A-Go Go is a must see only for the Circus on Ice short that precedes it.

On a side note, anyone that thinks Plan 9 From Outer Space is the worst movie ever hasn't seen Monster A-Go Go. It's a study in exactly what you shouldn't do when making a movie.

Plan 9 might have technically been terrible but Ed Wood truly loved movies and movie making. So maybe he sucked at it but he tried. I would say he was a better filmmaker than cynical farks like Michael Bay and Uwe Boll.

Mugato: I forgot about a lot of those. Hobgoblins was great. "It's the eighties. Do a lot of coke and vote for Ronald Reagan."

Hobgoblins was surreal in its badness. It left you wondering certain things during the viewing, namely: "Am I really watching this? Someone ACTUALLY made this?"

The Killer Bees was a little dry but WTF was the guy in the bowler hat who showed up during the closing credits?

I think he was one of the officials seen during the movie's prologue.

It's something of what TV Tropes would call a Brick Joke, in that the gov't received news about the crazy bee farm, and it's only at the end of the movie that they send someone to respond.

I think.

PacManDreaming: Monster A-Go Go is a must see only for the Circus on Ice short that precedes it.

Monster A-Go-Go is also worth it for the phone noise.

And Servo's "pear-shaped" riff towards the beginning is absolute gold.

What hurt it was the fact that it was essentially two movies stapled together. It's a Frankenmovie.

From the IMDB:

"Director Bill Rebane began shooting the film in 1961, but ran out of money. Years later, director Herschell Gordon Lewis bought the incomplete film to team it with Moonshine Mountain as a double feature. Lewis filmed some additional footage, added narration (which he did himself), and released it in 1965. Many of the actors didn't come back for later filming, which explains why most of the characters disappear without explanation. One actor changed so much that he ended up playing his own brother."

Yes, that's Bill Rebane of The Giant Spider Invasion fame. Explains a lot, doesn't it?

I don't really know the names of titles, but my favorites are Puma Man and the one where a time traveler goes back to the Revolutionary War. Jack Frost is good, Space Ghost, and there's a beach monster one I enjoy but can't say much more than that except it led to Mike wearing a tiny speedo.

There's one where a woman says "My tray-sure!" and they riff on it for the rest of the movie...I still think about that when I hear the word treasure, measure, etc.

Glad to see Tennagers from outer space on that list, but still needs more Cave Dwellers.

My humble entry:

The Giant Gila Monster

Were you putting your knee up again?"

2012-08-05 03:39:59 PM
Glad to see my all-time favorite, "The Creeping Terror" (Show 606) on there, even if it's under, "And if you like those, here are 10 more".

2012-08-05 03:41:16 PM
I would put Tormented on the list. And The Blood Waters of Dr. Z and The Girl in Gold Boots.

I had a pretty miiiiiiiiind...

Time Chasers! A good pick, even if the Castleton snobs don't like it.

Lots of good stuff in that one.

It probably had one of the best stingers on the show - that is, the after-credits film clips.

*general panicking* "MY GOD, WHAT IS IT."

The rest of the episode was awesome, too. That's all the same case with Danger! Death Ray!!, too.

Oh, definitely.

There are always a couple of great Season Five Joel episodes that always get baaaaaaaarely squeezed out in lists like these.

Among them, you have Warrior of the Lost World, The Girl in Lover's Lane, and The Painted Hills.

It's darker than the end of Se7en!

I really liked two of the skits there: the spoof of the plane crash/island languishing, and Mike auditioning dancers.
