Well, then enjoy! Not my cup of tea, but I would never stand between a person and their favorite sports.

Enjoy the game.

I'm ready for some football. After the NBA playoffs, there's just a void. Not even the Olympics can begin to alleviate the boredom.

Meh. I love football, but this isn't much of a game. I'll be watching, but likely doing other things.

Both of these teams are going to suck eight shades of diarrhea this year. Why should we waste our time watching them play on a high school field with junior high refs?

I think the insane coverage of preseason games is lame, and I do think they could get by with 1-2 less... you do realize every team sport has a pre-season for a reason.

Grrrrrr.......I can't watch the game because I'm forced to get my cable signal through Time-Warner Cable (my apartment building can't get the Dish either) and TWC has been in a rates dispute with the NFL about the NFL Channel for years, with no end in sight.

No big deal for tonight, but it'll be a big deal once the season starts and there's a Thursday game every week.

Grrrrrrr........

There's glory in the legends of this hard-muscle life
and there's poetry in each season, made of sweat and strife
But now's the time to work and strain
At a game that a sport that tests the spirit and challenges the brain
One strains with many on summer's green field
Time to strive, to dare, for all not to yield.
The palms of your hands will thicken
The skin of your cheek will tan
You'll grow ragged and weary and wet
But you must do the best you can
Do you fear the force of the wind
the slash of the rain?
Go face them and fight them
Be savage again

I can't tell if the Saints are rusty or actually out of their offensive rythym. The Cards have been able to get a bit of pressure on Brees.

2012-08-05 08:13:29 PM
Joe Morgan from the 4-yard line to the 23-yard line on the kick return. 1st and 10.
Brees shovel pass to Pierre Thomas for 2 yard gain, ball at the 25. 2nd and 8.
Screen pass to Thomas, ~20 yard gain to the 44-yard line. 1st and 10.
Toss to Darren Sproles, 8 yard gain to the 48-yard line. 2nd and 8.
Rush by Thomas, ~12 yards to the 36 yard line. 1st and 10.
Outside stretch by Sproles for 11 yards to the 25 yard line. 1st and 10.
Play-action pass to Devery Henderson incomplete. 2nd and 10.
Quick pass to the outside to Joe Morgan for a 12 yard gain to the 13 yard line. 1st and 10.
Timeout taken, Saints.

7-0 Saints

7-0 New Orleans, 10:52 1st

Yeah, I'll take that "rust." Some of you are on drugs, lol, they went up the field with zero difficulty.

2012-08-05 08:18:58 PM
Saints start after the timeout at the 13 yard line, 1st and 10.
Cutback run by Ingram for 10 yards to the 3 yard line, 1st and Goal. ("I think William Gay broke two ankles trying to make that tackle")
Ingram up the middle, down at the goal line. 2nd and inches.
TOUCHDOWN run by Ingram up the middle for a yard. Saints 6-0 Cardinals. Lemon of the Cardinals injured and helped off the field. 10:52 remaining in the 1st.
Saints taking ten farking years to get Hartley on the field for the extra point meaning I'm going to look even more delayed. ("We may never get this extra point kick. It may be the second game of the preseason before we get this extra point kick")
Fark it I'm posting.

2012-08-05 08:28:14 PM
Chase Daniel takes over for Brees, they take over at the 42 yard line... and I stop caring.
Daniel pulls a Vick for 6 yards to the 36 yard line, people berate him for his slide. Really. Really. 2nd and 4.
Run by Mark Ingram for like, one yard? To the 35. 3rd and 3.
Daniel sacked for a loss of pride. :(

davidphogan: UNC_Samurai: Why do you bother with eyeblack if you're going to only play one series?

Because your entire chance at advancing that career might hinge on that one series?

I thought he was referring to Brees, but I might be wrong.

I might be drunk. Just like Kolb probably is. At least that would be a decent excuse.

Stevens-Howling breaks tackle and runs 15 yards to the 35. My sound cuts out, great. 1st and 10.

2012-08-05 08:54:28 PM

Shuichi: Pardon my ignorance, but why is the Pro Football HoF in Canton anyway?

History

Canton, Ohio was selected as the location for the Hall of Fame for three reasons: First, the NFL was founded in Canton in 1920 (at that time it was known as the American Professional Football Association); second, the now-defunct Canton Bulldogs were a successful NFL team based in Canton during the first few years of the league; and finally, the community of Canton successfully lobbied the NFL to have the Hall built in their city.[3] Groundbreaking for the building was held on August 11, 1962. The original building contained just two rooms, and 19,000 square feet (1,800 m2) of interior space.[3]

Shuichi: Pardon my ignorance, but why is the Pro Football HoF in Canton anyway?

The NFL was originally founded in Canton. Plus, it was home to the Canton Bulldogs, the first NFL Champion.

It seemed apropos.

I like how the Cards are using this game to advertise to their fans that this years team will be exactly the same & they'll have some great kolb/Skellton duels to look forward too. No wonder people in Arizona like guns so much. I'd start shotting cactus & shiat too if I had the Cards to look forward to. I'd probably buy an ATV as well. Then I'd ride it out to the desert & shoot shiat on Sundays. F This.

Most of the semi-professional clubs came out of the mining and steelworking industries in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. It's why professional football was looked down upon by a lot of people. The gentlemen amateurs played in college and then gave up the sport; only uncouth blue-collar workers played for....ugh...money.

becksellent: I've never heard "frog-choker" either, but it sounds like something I wouldn't want to look up on Urban Dictionary.

It sounds like a serial killer that targets French immigrants. :-(

How about the Cardinals just trade their 2nd round pick for Daniel at halftime and everyone goes home happy.

Chase Daniel is actually looking pretty good tonight. I've never really seen him play before, but so far I'm impressed. :)

He's always been a silent asset. He's a damn decent back-up QB and he actually plays a role on offense even when Brees is on the field helping out on the sideline. He's a good QB with a good mentor in Brees. Dude's got serious potential.

That's awesome - not many teams are lucky enough to have that kind of quality depth. :) Just out of curiosity, what's his contract status?

If Martin stayed with the Pats and won some Super Bowls, sure he's a HOFer. But he farked up his career by playing for the Jets. Sorry, Martin. You'r no HOF. You're the Go-Bot to Marshall Faulk's Transformer.

I have beer to comfort me, and it's just preseason, so I'll be fine. If this was regular season, well honestly, three of the four horsemen will have already galloped by so my pain would be short lived.
