Should improve now that it's being taken over by the technical team.

cptjeff: Thrakkorzog: miss diminutive: Max Awesome: So this new giant rover is going to pick up and rescue the cute little rovers, right?

...guys?

[i1-news.softpedia-static.com image 792x400]

I think it would only have enough room to carry one of them.....which could lead to some tough decisions. Who gets rescued, Spirit or Opportunity?

Why not try and repair them? Bring the broken one home.

Even better, just leave 'em up there and make the the centerpiece of the museum we build on Mars once we start exploring the galaxy for real.

Sounds good.

VRaptor117: So, I hate to be "that guy" but anyone want to speculate on how Fox News is going to spin this into a negative? Maybe something about "Mars is red like communism and Obumbo just sent the communists our most advanced rover technology."

I think they'd just consider this to be a gigantic waste of money....and I couldn't disagree more.

But you won't take his word because he's so far right wing he supported obama's election..and is black.

It just traveled 350 million miles and landed on its own, I'm sure it will be fine by itself for a few min's. ;-)

Ricardo Klement: SpikeStrip: let's send a rover to venus!

#crushed #burnt

Melted. Crushed isn't nearly the problem the temperature is.

/Galileo survived 100miles down on Jupiter, a probe could survive 100 miles down on Venus.

well, that was sorta what the #burnt was for.

Gosling: Budget of Curiosity: $2.5 billion.

Budget of London Olympics: $14.47 billion.

And I know which broadcast I enjoyed more.

Yes I had to go to the net for the better one, but surely the Olympics should have been broadcast on free-to-air better than the hodgepodge reception we have received - I suspect this is the year the Olympics dies as a community/collective type event, corporate manipulation has eaten it out from the inside...

I am. I'm so happy for them right now.

Between this and the Olympics it's been an awesome week for witnessing the joy of human achievement. I've loved watching talented people celebrating their astounding achievements.

If only television was always this uplifting.

TheManofPA: cretinbob: Grand_Moff_Joseph: Gosling: Budget of Curiosity: $2.5 billion.

Cost of war in Afghanistan: $500B and counting :(

Cost of war in Iraq $805 billion and counting

I just wish we had all that money still to finish the space station and head towards maned missions to Mars. No way that money would have gone there, but it would be awesome to have an extra trillion (feel free to post her pictures).

Beyond the usual anger associated with the act, it does make me mad how just a few terrorists may have cost everyone in this thread the chance to see people touchdown on Mars in their lifetime.

Pity the skycrane couldn't have touched down intact. It would've made a nice fixed data station, if it had been equipped as such.

Yeah, yeah. Budget. Weight. All that stuff. I wonder if Curiosity will go and see how big a divot it made.

I didn't get to watch it all unfold, so what did he do? Was it just the mohawk or is there something more to it?
