People will do anything to get in Google's good graces.
It's like reverse lobbying or something.

Police and sewage treatment plants shouldn't get special treatment. They all belong to citizens.

Now you can use your phone to access the "your are here" floor plans laid out on most floors.

You know, in case you're stupid.

So the victory here is that he signed up to get his cities offices mapped on Google maps?

2012-08-05 02:14:32 AM

Navigating corridors in buildings with several different offices has always been a problem. It's not a matter of people being stupid or not paying attention -- it's a matter of people going into a complicated office layout they rarely ever go into.

It's not like they're shopping malls with big YOU ARE HERE signs every ten feet and flashing neon above the entrances.

It's a good idea for improving a long-standing problem. So what if it's not life-changing or life-saving on a grand scale. What have you done for your community, big guy?

Way to waste tax money.

erewhon: Do hospitals. Please.

Here you go.

I used to work at a hospital campus so large, it had two zip codes. Over 3 million square feet. I would've killed for an indoor mapping app. Save me hours tracking down lost hospital execs.

intelligent comment below: Congratulations to making it easier for criminals to plan attacks.

Erronious no knock raids aren't going to be FUBAR all by themselves. Pigs need floor plans to more effectively murder random dogs.

Ah, okay. Thanks.

I don't even own one of those stupid phones and I never will. The farking idiots who use that app will fall in a manhole or get run over before they have a chance to go to the courthouse.

Hosiptals are on the roadmap for Google to do. If you want to get the ball rolling you can get the floor plans and upload them yourself.

fragMasterFlash: How frequently do public buildings get remodeled?

Not as often as you think, but you can maintain the indoor maps yourself- just upload new floor plans.

So, I can use this app to find the display department?

You know, the one in the cellar?

In the disused lavatory?

Will it warn me that the lights don't work? And the stairs are out?

I assume the "Beware of the Leopard" sign will be self explanatory...
