SuperNinjaToad: Man! I really feel terrible for anyone swimming on a relay with Phelps if Andrea Kramer does the interview afterward.....it's almost like they totally don;t count and she is just shoving the mic on their faces as a formality .... basically waiting for Micheal's turn.

Im concerned as well.

Nice job covering the triathlon, just totally ignore the event and show the final.

Earguy: Commercial break, what do you think of this ring as a casual, secondary wedding band? Something to wear to match with a watch or outfit.

How thick is it compared with your normal ring? That looks pretty wide.

/no jokes

Is that a robot cock ring?

Good quote by Williams when the flag fell.

That's a ring eh? I thought it was some finely CNC'd engine part of some kind.

Ooh shhh, the Olympic commercials are back on!

We set them up the bomb. Odd, it isn't Aug. 7
/ducks

the 6th was the date, and that was history - humor joke, what is expected on Fark, so no ducking needed!

I should probably still duck for messing up the date. For some reason I thought it was only two days before Nagasaki (I have no problem remembering that one because it's the same date as my sister's brithday)

Britain's first track medal???? I thought that the long jump took place before this (in real time, not just bizzaro NBC weird)

Damn, she hung back like a race horse and poured it on at just the right time. They all looked like they were jogging, but I guess they're all exhausted and couldn't turn on a burst sprint.

Okay, I'm confused about track now. Why is it that, even had she lost, she still would have won? I heard something about "points", but I didn't realize they did NASCAR-like scoring...

That's why I love track and field. The hotties are legal.

I'd pay real money for a chance to disappoint her.

2012-08-04 11:29:22 PM
Gee, NBC, you think maybe people would have wanted to watch the start middle, and end of track events that already were awarding medals today instead of matches for soccer and volleyball that aren't even near medal rounds yet?

So glad I watched NBC feeds earlier today.

Joe_diGriz: Okay, I'm confused about track now. Why is it that, even had she lost, she still would have won? I heard something about "points", but I didn't realize they did NASCAR-like scoring...

Since it's the heptathlon, she was ahead based on the other events by enough that I think she just needed to finish strong (but not first) to win the overall event

Joe_diGriz: Okay, I'm confused about track now. Why is it that, even had she lost, she still would have won? I heard something about "points", but I didn't realize they did NASCAR-like scoring...

Heptatalion. Seven events so they have to points.

Heptathlon is 7 events. You get points based on your scores in each of them. She had a decent lead going into the finals and she is a better runner than thrower.

Decathlons will be later with 10 events.

Joe_diGriz: Okay, I'm confused about track now. Why is it that, even had she lost, she still would have won? I heard something about "points", but I didn't realize they did NASCAR-like scoring...

Heptathlon. Seven different athletic events. She had a big lead in points through 6. The points are how they combine timed events like this 800m and measured events like the high jump.

Heptathlon, it's like all-around in gymnastics.

She ain't real pretty but at least she don't look like a dude. Congrats.

2012-08-04 11:31:24 PM
She's a cutie.

And, there ain't going to be anything greater than winning an olympic medal in front of tens of thousands in your home country.

Why is the term "herptathlon" rolling around in my head, and sound like something that belongs on the Politics tab?

Heptathlon gold medal. Point totals from competition in seven sports determine the winner.

GoldSpider: "herptathlon"

That's what all the olympic athletes compete in towards the end of the games. That's why they use the condoms.

lots of people: Heptathlon

Ah, okay. I missed that it wasn't a stand-alone race. Thanks, everyone.

Nope, the long jump was going on when Ennis won.

Joe_diGriz: Why is it that, even had she lost, she still would have won?

In the heptathlon and decathlon as well, you get points based on your performance in each event. The points are based on values on an established table, so where you finish in each event is immaterial. In the last event if you're in the lead you just have to make sure whoever is in second doesn't finish ahead of you by whatever the margin is that would earn them enough points to surpass you.

Maybe that's considered a field event.

Hmmm wonder if NBC will mention the men's 10,000 meters now or save it for the late night show.

2012-08-04 11:36:33 PM
I hate how NBC thinks we need a human interest story for every event. Just show the damnable event. Its dramatic enough by itself.

Taking odds on NBC showing whole 1500 meters.

They haven't yet? There's an American in the race for a change. Maybe they'll edit both the long track and swimming together AND GO TO COMMERCIAL.

Also, I think fark did a good job about describing the hept and dec events. Lots of us posted that one.

0.

I'm putting the line for number of commercials during at 1.5
