Why is everyone in the future yellow?

The tall one's kinda cute, but they aren't very interesting.

Simpsons Jaundice.

Ah Futurama, where else can i get "Simpsons season 19" quality humor in a geek wrapper.

2012-08-04 08:12:12 PM
Soooo, they're doing exactly what the series creaters did themselves on the DVD for Bender's Big Score...? Granted it includes some of the newer episodes, but still.

/seriously, one of the extras was a 10something minute short where they were talking about the math of Futurama

Uh, welcome to 2004?

We already knew all of that and there was an article written about it, so shut it, Gawker!

Futurama is awesome, but that video was full-on awful. I can't believe I let it run for two minutes before closing it.

/The latest season is OK, but this show deserves higher quality episodes. I'll think we'll get them soon.

Two minutes of your life you'll never get back. Just think of the naken ladies you could have looked at in that time.

I tested this comment, and the answer is 452. Though I do warn other farkers that one of the first pictures that comes up is a naked man covered in paint riding a bicycle, so that may be more for the Farkettes than Farkers.

I actually made it about four minutes.

But then one time I made it 72 seconds into the View, so I can obviously take a lot of torture.

I made it 1 minute. A jewish lesbian and a hipster married feminist hyphanator. Yea were done here unless they are going to start scissoring.

Would it be against the rules to write a bot that crawls all the gawker (and laughing squid and others) links submitted and posts a link to the actual content in every thread?

Hey subby, why did you feel the need to subject us to four sentences of gawker analysis instead of just linking to the actual farking video.

So... who else really hates the new Futurama? I mean, they're not a hundred percent terrible, but I really don't feel like they are anywhere as good as the old episodes. I don't think nostalgia is clouding my memory, as I still watch the old eps every now and then. The new writing just seems lazy, I guess. There's a whole lot "oh holy crap extreme situation holy crap big deal" type nonsense, and the very best episodes were just the characters doing normal(well, relatively) stuff and playing off each other. When was the last time they made a delivery?

I really hate being the "new stuff sucks" snob but that's how I feel about it.

I'm sorry, but any credibility I was willing to grant them vanished when they recommended "Lexx". Cripes, that show was so bad that I'm surprised it managed to stick to the videotape.

I can agree with you somewhat. I watch the original seasons frequently, but rarely re-watch the first several episodes of the "new" Futurama. But I have to admit they seem to be getting better as they go, so I'm holding out hope that they'll get back to 100%.

/Freaking Eye Phone episode was terrible. TERRIBLE.

Lazy? Really? So far this season, they've cleverly imagined Ocktoberfest as a highbrow, hipster affair that escalates into a hominid battle royale, turned Hermes into a Cylon, ridiculed performance-enhancing drugs, had Zapp plow Leela's mom, and properly skewered the paparazzi, the democratic process, and the Mayan apocalypse. Not to mention developing the Fry/Leela subplot, and having Bender become a dad.

As a latecomer to Futurama's brilliance, whose spent many hours catching up on the old eps, I find the writing this season to be better than ever,

The show has been pretty consistent. A little more topical this time around but they choose good topical things that will age well.

You could be right, I stopped watching the new ones after four or five of them. Have seen bits and pieces of some after that and they just seem off to me. I'll give them a watch though. One episode I did really like was the one where Fry misses his date with Leela because he went too far forward in time, and she leaves him a stalactite (mite?) message.

Maybe lazy is too harsh a word, but I don't like them having to save the universe ALL the time (didn't mind the brains though) and I'm not a huge fan of topical social commentary. Like I said, I'll give it another shot and check out the recent episodes I haven't seen.

welcome to the future -- it's half-assed

Here's a lesson for pink hair: be as smart as the show your talking about. Hipster douchehyphen, you are a moron and should feel bad. A cartoon makes you like shiat you hate? WTF is wrong with your goddam brain? That and the whole pink hair lustfully looking at douchehyphen was really creepy.

Lexx isn't all _that_ bad, it's just the "goddammit, I'm out of Red Dwarf episodes to watch" show for those who haven't yet realized that Farscape is on Netflix.

I mean, it's no more terrible than the majority of the potluck generic SciFi filler shows, like Sanctuary, Doctor Who, Warehouse 13, etc. Or, to be honest, many of the later iterations of shows built on ripping themselves off, like Enterprise or Voyager.

Man, I just realized I've seen a farkton of bad/half-assed shows about people jetting around the universe in physically impossible conveyances and having whacky adventures with no internal consistency.

I'm with you there. After I gave up cable, I was bummed that I wouldn't be able to see the new episodes (not until they came to Netflix, anyway). But I happened to catch that Eye Phone episode when I was visiting my parents, and it completely erased any desire I had to see any more of the show. It was basically just Family Guy in a Futurama skin.

/I'll just stick with the reruns of the good seasons on CW.

Have you tried any of the episodes from about "Neutopia" on? They're ok. Not great but ok. It still feels different to me but I do get some laughs here and there. This season seems to have improved on those episodes too, it's like they're trying to find their spot again. Neutopia is worth a watch if only for old lady Farnsworth and her tassles. I gave it a cringing giggle.

I've actually bought all the DVDs so far, excepting, I think the most recent one that had 4 episodes on it or somesuch. I've watched them, BUT I CAN'T REWATCH THEM!

This from someone that lived for months off and on without tv, and used the simpsons and futurama boxed sets as a background replacement for them. It was a show that grew on me, and the only episode from the first 4 seasons I can't take is That's Lobstertainment. I remember on the commentary they basically said "screw you, haters, this is one of the BEST episodes." I feel like they are spending their time trying to make more like that. Sad, in that Futurama beat out the most emotional episodes of the Simpsons with the Trio of Tears: Luck of the Fryrish, Leela's Homeworld, Jurrassic Bark.

miniflea: When was the last time they made a delivery?

Three episodes ago. They delivered Moon rocks to the Moon in The Butterjunk Effect.

While the recent seasons haven't had any episodes that can stand against the best episodes from before it was cancelled, I would say they are roughly on par with the average early episode. It isn't like Family Guy, which is generally god awful with a few gems here and there it is generally quite good with a few clunkers here and there. And having just watched all the episodes for this season in the past two days, it is looking like a great season if they can keep it going and generate a classic episode.

Ah so Futurama has entered "The new [X TV SHOW] sucks, not like [2-3 seasons ago]". Don't worry, this season will be the best season of the bunch in a few years, just like Homer Simpson vs New York used to be part of the New Simpsons. And then Homer to the Max. Now they, too, are Old Simpsons.

/entered Futurama season 6, Simpsons season 17
//watched all seasons of both (respectively) in the weeks that followed
