There were a total of nine (9) holding fouls committed by the Indian boxer in the third round alone. However the Referee only gave one caution;

I'm not surprised the Ref didn't want to give the second/third caution. Look what happened to Frank Scharmach. They suspended him for calling them like he saw them.

This sport was considered a joke way before that Azerbaijan fight. You'd think they'd do everything in their power to play it safe and rectify its standing, yet here we are again....

Boxing needs to be taken out of the Olympics. It's blatant corruption and dishonesty and outright incompetence is an embarrassment to every athlete in every sport who tries to abide by the principles of fair play that these games are supposed to represent.

I used to like watching the matches too, but there's just no point in watching a competition that's been decided before it even starts.

In the video above you can even see the referee begin to raise Spence's hand as the decision was being handed down, assuming that he had won.

He threw Spence's hand up!! LOL That was awesomeness.

Boxing should be eliminated from future olympics. It's ridiculous.

It really does seem boxing is trying to kill itself on purpose. I still love the concept of boxing but I can't watch anymore. Mayweather/Pacquiao would be the only match I'd pay for but I still think it either wont happen or if it does happen it will be mired in this kind of controversy.

You want to fix boxing? No decisions. Fight until one man can't fight any longer. It's a bloodsport, to hell with playing it safe.

2012-08-04 06:03:28 PM
This is why boxing needs to be to the death, that way there is no question who the winner is. They get to put barbed wire on their gloves after the 15th round.

I'd rather have had Rugby 7's in.

Remind me why on earth we should be getting special treatment just because we're American?

He lost. He should learn to accept it like a gentleman and move on.

The decision wasn't reversed because he was an American, it's because the judges and referee didn't want the American to win, and ignored 9 holding fouls (which resulted in a 4-point deduction on review) and a blatant spitting-out of a mouthpiece by the American's opponent that in itself should have been a 4-point deduction. And this was only the *2nd* worst display of blatantly fixed judging in this Olympics: the Azerbaijanis flat-out bribed the boxing authority running the Olympic boxing tournament to literally try and buy a gold medal for one of their boxers, which resulted in an Azerbaijani boxer, *who got knocked down 6 times in the final round*, winning the bout... based on the results of the final round. It was only because of the uproar following *that* bout that the AIBA, which is running the Olympic boxing tournament, decided to overturn the decision in that Azerbaijani's fight and sanction the referee... but not themselves for ordering the referee and the judges to fix the fight. I guess they decided that being this blatant with the fight fixing wasn't maybe the brightest idea they ever had.

As someone with a nephew who as a realistic chance of boxing in the Olympics in 2016, this is very frustrating.

I'm sure that the Japanese fighter who got his fight overturned is happy about the special treatment he got for being American too.

I'll give them credit for at least overturning horrible decisions.

The Olympics has not always done that. The rest of the boxing mocks the Olympics for even CONSIDERING it.

Boxing is a disgrace to all we hold sacred. It is an abomination against God and an indignity against man. Boxing is a great evil amongst the masses. All it's followers and participants MUST be exterminated without compassion. fark boxing in its anus. fark it and damn it to hell!

But he still should have accepted the result. This is starting to sound like the complaints after Tim Bradley won one of the greatest boxing matches ever fought.

So, you fully support the blatant fixing of Olympic boxing matches, then, without any recourse to correct the results?

Yup. Take it out for a couple of Olympics, then only allow it back in on a trial basis. Any more shenanigans and it's out for good.

It's pretty clear the problem isn't with the odd ref or judge, but with the governing bodies. The BBC has been reporting that that AIBA accepted a ten million dollar bribe from Azerbaijan to give them two gold medals, which is why that other fight was so ridiculous.

or both.

so in other words accept the fact that people will cheat to win and they deserve the gold over someone who didn't cheat? and why does it have to be oh we're getting special treatment cause we're American crap, wth is this crap. plenty of other corrupted events that didn't revolve around Americans.

prolly just a trolling attempt but i am getting tired of oh this view of oh special treatment for the Americans..

Seoul kicked the New Zealand ref out for calling a fair fight. Seoul had coaches and 'fans' rioting when a Korean didn't have a decision go for him. Seoul was very blatant. But I guess it is worse, since this year's is equal opportunity blatant bribing for multiple countries.

Since when did the breakaway republic have that much money to begin with? Is this some mob shiat, when all is said and done?

So it's safe to watch again?

/haven't watched gymnastics since Dominique Dawes got jobbed in Atlanta 96
//and then there was Surya. Her fk ups were always about taking huge chances instead of playing it safe, but when she was good she wasn't given the credit she should have been given

Judges are supposed to be infallible. It goes against the Olympic spirit for an American to appeal.
