Cops are generally really nice people. The system may suck, but I think they just want to help people (and deer). Sure there are the occasional douchebags, but that is everywhere - except politics when it is just the opposite.

The second picture with the deer resting behind them as they 'prepare' to rescue the deer is funny, but why delay saving the little guy for a photographer to get ready, it can be done ex post facto.

I wonder where the fawn went, I have no I deer.

Damn you, Sir, this is fark. Stop being reasonable! You'll make people think that you've been replaced by a body snatcher.

Look at the rescue team fawning over the little deer. I wonder if it will get a bill for it's rescue? They will probably charge it two bucks.

They should have said something like "here, the officers demonstrate how they lowered the guy into the hole." But it's only the Daily Mail, so nobody cares.

Cute little deer!

In an unrelated note, I had venison sausage the other night at dinner.

The headline is especially funny because deer and hamsters are of the same genus.

I was a volunteer firefighter. I know how they think.

After donning a gas mask and a safety harness, an officer with the Suffolk County police prepares to rescue the trapped fawn

Oh really? was there another one down there or is that deer lying down in the background just there to watch?

I'm shocked they found a cop that could fit through that little opening.

One of the funniest jokes I've seen on the Internet was a Richard Gere joke.

It was way back when Lum the Mad's peerless gaming blog was running. Lum had just left as an Ascended Fanboy in the pay of Mythic Entertainment and the site was circling the drain in a welter of drunken chaos. In spite of his self-admitted problems staying sober the site admin implemented personalized pics with taglines and one of the more pompous and prolific members chose a portrait of a guinea pig saying something cute. Well, with an admin like that it wasn't long before the tagline was edited and that rodent was pleading, "Please don't put me in Richard Gere's ass!"

Ah, good times...

To make sure the deer was in the right shape to be let back into the wild, the officers made sure it could walk before it darted off without a word of thanks.

That's disgraceful! The officers should have thanked the deer before it darted off.

Dang, Lum the Mad...

Talk about a trip down memory lane.

What a weird place the Internet used to be.

Good catch! They probably got the pictures messed up and put on of the officer coming out of the hole. The deer is likely 'resting' right then. Hope it finds it's momma; it's a bit young to be on it's own.
